Hi - I'm Pete, but go by "flwing", the personalized tag on my Honda Goldwing.

I've lived in Florida since 1958, am married with a wonderfully patient and understanding wife, grown children in their 40's and numerous grandchildren - in a former life I worked in commercial AM/FM radio for a decade, then got a real job in law enforcement for 23 years and retired in 1997 with a good pension.  I've also been a certified driving instructor and Florida DL examiner, a court ordered driving-related classroom instructor, certified SCUBA diver, an avid firearm target shooter and play piano, trombone, guitar and bass.  With all the turmoil in our Nation I'm usually grumpy, but on positive side I've been told numerous times I'm a fairly capable and experienced BS artist (*). (On a side note, my wife is also a retired LEO and keeps me behaving for the most part.)

With pistol and rifle ammunition scarce (same for reloading supplies) and costing a fortune, I've been shooting my .22 caliber springer a lot more and recently bought a Air Venturi Avenger in .25 caliber.   I notice many members list the rifles & pistols they own...unfortunately I don't have any [See (*) above.] except for the two mentioned.  I also have several acres of swamp land which may be for sale...

Looking forward to benefiting from the combined knowledge of the group members.

Steve didn't do himself justice! He is a lot closer to you, than you think! For example, he grew up in Florida (in part), and if the truth be known, he has webs between his toes! Of course, not.... He doesn't hunt alligators, but he's really into Ratus, Ratus!

Welcome aboard, and feel free to share and express your knowledge! We promise to do the same!

I have a Hill EC-3000 compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your tank as a courtesy (4,250 PSI limit).

Well... I actually grew up on Army posts all over the US, Europe and Japan. I lived in Orlando from 76-91. I fished the Kissimmee chain of lakes often while there. That's my primary Florida story. Oh. Don't drink the water there.

Good back story Pete; maybe you should have been a writer as well.  I just recently acquired a Air Venturi in .22 and LOVE it.  I haven't been able to get out and shoot it recently for lots of reasons, but for one Gardening is in full swing; Potatoes and Onions are up and looking good and Corn is planted.  Tomatoes will finish it off in a week or so.  BTW, a hardy welcome from a flyover despicable.  Kansas native for 75 years now except for a stint in the US Navy (4yrs).

Steveoh - I was an army brat too - Dad retired as a Major in '59 and had a house built in Kissimmee - I've been there ever since (not in the same house), but was born at Ft. Meade (MD) and bounced around between Ft. Devins (MA), Ft. Campbell (KY), and Ft. Sam Houston (TX).

Capt45 - Glad your garden is doing well.  I gave up a few years ago because the planting season starts 4 months before the rains...just too darn much work trying to keep everything alive and growing.  Glad you like your Venturi .22 - since I already have a springer in .22, I bought one in .25 cal.  I drove through Kansas a few times - a real pain trying to get anywhere diagonally in that state with the way the roads are laid out!   ;D

Well howdy there fellow brat!

I was born on Fort Polk, LA, and our stateside posts included, Fort Lee, VA, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN, Pentagon, Fort Jackson, SC and a few I don’t recall. Dad retired as a Major also. He also spent a year in South Korea, and Vietnam. Overseas included SHAPE, France and Belgium, and Camp Zama, Japan.

I am very grateful for my education of traveling around the world and determining that all folks are more alike than not.

Life is good.

I neglected to mention that between Ft. Meade and Ft. Devins, we spent a year in Okinawa - can't tell you where (until I talk to my older sisters), since I was only 18 months old.  My mother loved to relate how the house workers (supplied by the military) use to converse with me in Japanese, but I've not retained any of that language. ;)

My Father enlisted in early 1940 and was a Chaplain, so after serving in Europe during WWII (at which time he was promoted to Captain) after the war he seemingly was transferred to any post needing a member of the Clergy - my Mother said that during his 15 years in the Army (not counting 4 years during WWII) they moved 14 times!

He would have stayed in longer but as the result of an injury during the Korean War in early 1953 and because of his TIS and TIG as a Major, (the U.S. Army didn't need so many officers) he would have been RIF'ed soon anyway, so he took a disability retirement in 1959.

A lot of bases have been closed in Japan and Okinawa over the years, so the station you were at might no longer exist.

My father-in-law fought in WW2 and in the Korean War. He was a paratrooper and ended up behind enemy lines. He was very tight lipped about his service, and had horrible nightmares the rest of his life. He did not have romantic notions of war, and even forbid firearms on his farm. He took his stories and experiences to the grave.
