Hello to everyone
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:49:44 PM »
Hi airgun enthusiasts!
Well, there aren't enough hours in the day to keep up with one airgun forum, so I might as well not keep up with two, LOL.  But I will certainly try and keep up with what is going on, and contribute enough to earn my keep. I really enjoy the technical aspect of airguns.... there is plenty of science involved to keep it challenging, but not so overwhelming as to be discouraging.  Target shooting is kind of secondary to me and honestly, I'd rather be in my shop working on airguns than shooting them.  But I do put plenty of shots across the chrony.
Spending time with the grandkids and working on the property take first priority, but the airguns aren't too far behind.
I'll be posting soon.

Hello Lloyd and welcome to the Guild. Always enjoyed reading about your test, ideas and experiments with airguns over at the GTA. Glad that you're over here now too.

Well, at least you know you're among like-kind, as we're all a bit nuts around here!

Hi again guys, and thanks for the welcome.  Being a little nuts.... I call it uninhibited..... can be helpful when trying to get a new idea to actually work.  Alan, my wife and I took a little vacation a while back to NM, but in the Santa Fe, Los Alamos area.  A whole lot different than back here in Virginia where if any land is left unattended, in a few years it turns back into forest, LOL.

Yes, I do love doing the testing and experimenting, especially when there are some of those burning questions that you've been obsessing over for years.  Like, just how strong is a Marauder rifle tube and just as important, how strong are the end connections??  We'll never know exactly how Crosman actually specs their tubes, we can only guess and speculate.  But with the 1.25 dia and the .093/.095 wall, they weigh a ton and the various safety factors should all be above 3 to 1.  I have some 3Al-2.5V cwsr Ti tube of similar dimensions and I plan on hydraulically testing both the M-Rod factory tubing and the Ti tubing to see how they fall into line with calculations and expectations.  Nothing like knowing the answer for sure.

Lloyd, I didn't look for it, but the discussion about the Marauder's tube strength has been discussed previously. A search should find it.

One of our members, Bob Sterne, probably knows the answer right off, and I suspect OldPro would too. This said, the future seems to be carbon fibered, aluminum air tanks and/or replacement of the tubes entirely. I think the winds of change are upon us.

Lloyd, as you and I have discussed many times, no better way to confirm theory than to test it in the real world.... I look forward to your results on the MRod tube and its equivalent in Titanium....

Hi guys,
Just not enough hours in the day and I go in fits and spurts.  Sometimes I'll post a bunch and then be gone for weeks.  But its always good to share in the fun and knowledge with everyone.  And yes, I did put up some new spreadsheet stuff in a thread in the Ask Bob area.  The science of it is the airgun porn for me, LOL.
