WAR SSG Install
« on: February 08, 2016, 05:56:22 PM »
I finally got my WAR SSG today. Very well made and seems straight forward but I'm not quite sure how to get it all together though. I backed out the set screw and had to back out the "hammer spring adjuster" 3/4 of the way before it would fit. My next step is turning the lock nut in on the spring guide to make the end cap adjuster flush unless it's not supposed to work that way. Also what is the set screw for exactly? Looks like just to keep the end cap adjuster in there except I will have to really turn the lock nut in for me to be able to get the set screw to hit the end cap adjuster. Curious if anyone else has one already or it looks like only oldpro can answer my questions as of now. Regardless I'm putting this here so others who get one can figure it out right away if help is needed. Thanks.

You might have the video up before I get a chance. Maybe tomorrow afternoon or Thursday will be my first chance to tune it.

Played with the SSG alittle bit today. Travis wasn't kidding about the tuning being easy. I don't know why I was confused about it I just needed to think about how it worked and then it just came to me.

First off gun has Hill valve, gauge port and depinger with .113 transfer port and a reservoir extension. Tuned with JSB 18.13 lubed pellets. MMHF barrel so fps is 20~ slower than crosman barrel. 3100psi fills.
1st string to compare to
Stock hammer with hill spring which I believe is a 10#
51 shots with ES of 3.6% around 29.2fpe avg 1050psi used 830-861-830 fps

Now 2 SSG strings first didn't touch preload only adjusted the gap between valve and hammer
40 shots with ES of 2.8% around 31.2fpe avg 700psi used 880-890-865 fps

Backed out on preload alittle and adjusted gap to get fps around original tune
60 shots with ES of 2.9% around 29.3fpe avg 800psi used 840-860-835 fps

As you can see there is a big difference on ES and shot count and air used. My first SSG tune only did 40 shots because that's all I had time for at the time (lunch break) so I might have gotten more shots catching the string on the beginning of the curve. And if I went with 4% ES I could have gotten more shots no doubt also but I usually shoot pigeons out to 75 yards on the dairy so I like to keep it at 3%.

Shared on marauder forum and GTA as well. And thanks for the awesome product I'm very happy with it. I hope others will get one now if they were on the fence before because its not just talk. And a clean look being completely internal let alone not chewing up the hand.

I can't imagine what this little device can do for someone with an untuned stock Mrod. It will make it so much quieter, tuning really simple, and its so versatile. Just by simply changing gap 1/8th of a turn out (maybe less) I went from 940fps to 800fps and that's not changing the preload or anything. And the fact that you can change preload by simply taking out the retaining screw on the cap is awesome. With a dremel I'm going to make it so I can remove the retaining screw without even unbolting the stock from the action. Which means changing preload or springs would take a minute. There's no other SSG capable of that that I know of.
