How well does it fit?
« on: March 27, 2017, 04:31:36 AM »
Ratter brought up an interesting topic (at least to me), and that is the fit of the gun to one's physique as it were. Some folks refer to this as shouldering, but I think we're all on the same wavelength whatever we call it.

In Ratter's case, he removed the cheekpiece on his new (to him) Kral to get it to fit better. After looking at the posted photos, I can see why he did so. I should mention that I don't like bullpups, and this is one of the reasons—fit!

I have a Gen 1 Marauder with a wood stock, and it seems to fit very nicely. Once you shoulder it, everything is in good alignment, and you don't have to distort your body to see through the scope. My WARized .25 Marauder has an AR15 style aluminum stock and tail piece. I wouldn't call the fit perfect, but again sight alignment is natural without undue stress. My Freedom 202 isn't as friendly, as you have to squirm a bit to make any shot. The Hatsan I used to own was just passible fit wise.

I wonder how many of us are dissatisfied (or have been) with a specific airgun because of fit, rather than some of issue (like accuracy, etc.)?

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

I agree with you Alan. I've had quite a few different guns and most I can say I was satisfied with fitment some were extremely comfortable some pretty good and others not the best. For me specifically it's AR platform guns that I just can't get comfortable shooting even though I love the look so they had to go

The AR platform, to me, seems awkward because the butt plate is very high relative to the comb line.... I find the cheek weld to give reasonable alignment with the scope, but to achieve that, the toe of the stock must be in the pocket of your shoulder, instead of the entire butt being solidly seated.... For instance, it is impossible to fit a butt hook on the typical AR stock, where the hook fits into your armpit.... you would end up with it spearing your shoulder....

The basic problem, as I see it, it that the comb is directly in line with the top of the butt.... there is NO drop in that style of stock.... Having said that, at least the cheek weld is reasonable to good, compared to many stocks, where the comb is wayyyyy too low....
