Dilemma, or what would you do?
« on: March 31, 2016, 03:25:34 PM »
I bought a used Hatsan AT44-10 Long QE from Travis. After sorting out the issues with the "LDC, Muffler, Silencer, whatever" (not Travis' issue), the Hatsan shoots very well, but with some minor issues.

The PolyMags will hold a 50 yard group of just under .5 inches if I do my part. But, one out of 7 or 8 is a flyer which hits the target sideways.

The JBS Kings will hold close to one inch at 50 yards, with only one perhaps two fliers out of ten shots.

The Vortex pellets will hold well under .5 inches, and I have managed to do a couple of 5 shot groups which look like a .35 caliber hole. But... Typically about 4 out of 10 is a flier!

Which one would you shoot?

Isolate the CAUSE of the fliers .... then go back to shooting groups.
Pellet clipping LDC / baffles ...
Barrel had burr at transfer port ...
Needs to be bore lapped or leade / crown touched up ...

Take the barrel off, get it crowned and all gussied up to shoot nice.  Somebody must provide the service at a fair price. It sounds pretty straightforward but all the discussions about how to DIY lacked a certain degree of clarity and precision, I would want more clarity and pictures of how to before attempting on my own. Ergo; ship it off and 'git 'er done'.

Well, the biggest issue was cleaning the gunk out of the barrel. I ran a whole pack of felt pellets trough it, and swabbed the barrel with 4 separate swabs. The 5th one was fairly clean. I did not use any solvents of any kind, but whatever it was, it felt tacky.

I did order a rebuild kit or sorts from Hatsan, which are all of the o-rings I need to R&R the barrel. This will allow me to use some Hoppy's, although it currently looks shiny. It still won't shoot the Heavy pellets, but that is a mont issue.

NO HOPPYS !!!

Use of WD-40 or GooGone which are mild solvents are popular & what is personally used and they won't hurt rubber 0-rings.

Why not? If you clean out the barrel with denatured alcohol afterwards, shouldn't make any difference me thinks.

Bare barrel out of the receiver ... sure no harm.
STILL ... it is NOT the right solvent to use, there is No powder fouling or Gilding metal to dislodge.

Far better choices to make ... Again we try and teach, but ya need listen too  ;)

All i got on this subject ...
