brand new Gen2 .25 Mrod out of the box, first shot string
« on: March 07, 2016, 09:37:41 PM »
ok  guys,
I've been over to help a new airgunner get his gun going. This is his first airgun, and it is 100% factory stock OTB.
No adjustments have been made, and it still even has the "Lawyer Spring" in it.
Barrel has been cleaned, gun filled to 3000 psi, shooting JSB 25.39,
these are the first shots ever fired from this gun.

tell me what you think, and where should we go from here ?

----FPS -----------------PSI
1 - 859 -----------------3000
2 - 862 -----------------2950
3 - 868 -----------------2900
4 - 871 -----------------2850
5 - 867 -----------------2800
6 - 859 -----------------2725
7 - 868 -----------------2700
8 - 871 -----------------2650
9 - 867 -----------------2600
10 - 857 ----------------2550
11 - 860 ----------------2500
12 - 853 ----------------2440
13 - 850 ----------------2400
14 - 858 ----------------2325
15 - 843 ----------------2275
16 - 850 ----------------2210
17 - 831 ----------------2150
18 - 829 ----------------2100
19 - 816 ----------------2025
20 - 807 ----------------1975
21 - 798 ----------------1900
22 - 797 ----------------1850
23 - 789 ----------------1775
24 - 786 ----------------1700

Per my suggestions, He is planning on sending it to Travis right away, for some Mrod tuning magic, as well as get the new SSG installed at the same time. He may be interested in a rezzie extension, valve mods, etc.

What do you all think should be done to this gun for a tune ?
What do you think is reasonable to expect for a good balance of higher power and decent shot count ?

I will be forwarding all replies to him, and he will be in contact with Travis probably sometime this week.

Thanks,
Ron

I would fine tune for 2 mags (16 Shot) sweet spot with a factory .25 no mods

Remove the heavy .046 wire hairclip spring and replace it with two #4 screw nylon washers.

I measured the original spacer from the rear pivot measured ID .125 OD .251 Hgt .122. Two of the above washers measure .126 high OD almost exact and ID alil tight on pin. I used a new 1/8 drill as a reamer to size the ID till it felt like that factory spacers fit on the pin. I then sanded down with 220 grit the side of the washers with the molding marks till it matched the Hgt of .122. passes the hit on rear etc with out tripping I DID NOT touch any of the other sear or travel adjustments. .

You will need good quality Allen wrench for trigger assembly side cover as its 1/16th a Craftsmen one worked for me and fight tightly in heads. 1/8 drill bit and a piece of 220 or finer sandpaper. Make sure ya wash off the washers after sanding them.

this is my gen 1 .25 out of box

another worthwhile mod extra baffles via a spacer on rear of barrel shroud pushing it forward

Whats up ?
 Something strange,...
I got an email notification that there is a reply from Bob La Londe on this thread, but for some reason it does not show up for me here.

Was something posted, and then deleted ?

Nothing against Critters Fine advice but he is showing a Gen 1 with Gen 1 Baffles.  The Gen 2 baffles are much more efficient.  You are better investing your monies in  a WAR NBH if Quiet is what you are after.  It does more to reduce the report and gives you more shots.  a double bonus.

And Critter if you are reading this, you can remove that spacer and purchase 6 baffles and a spring from Crosman and get quieter without the added length.

Enjoy!!

Agreed to the above comment,
on my .22 cal Gen 1, I switched out the original baffles,
(with Gen 2 baffles and spring), for a noticeable improvement.

I made a comment about the comment about pellet weight, and then when I realized my comment after the original post was edited didn't make any sense I deleted my comment.

Hi Critter,
It takes 2 Gen 2 baffles at $1.15 ea. ?  And a spring for all 6.  It is quieter!  Trust me.  Look for the parts manual in .pdf for the Gen 2 and all will be revealed!
