.308 200 yards
« on: July 17, 2020, 07:27:33 PM »
I shot my .308 today. First time shooting the 150gr BBT at 200 yds. Seeing signs of yaw.

It looks like a bit of yaw at 100 yards.... but the holes at 200 yards look pretty clean to me.... and just over a 2" group at that range is spectacular.... Maybe the bullet is going to sleep after 100?....  ???

hmmmmmm.... I thought they were the other way around in the video, but I didn't watch the whole thing.... My mistake, you did the 200 first....  ::)

What is the twist rate?.... is that in your 14"?....

Yes it's TJ 1-14". Never seen yaw with the 136gr. The 150gr did the trick on 2 deer this year but I limited my distance to 100 yards.

Looks like it might just be on the margin.... In theory, as the bullet travels downrange the gyroscopic stability increases, so it may be dynamic instability creeping in.... That may or may not improve with a faster twist rate....  ???

I went with 150gr so I could meet the state requirements for deer hunting. I'll use them for that from 25 to 100 yards. I'll  use the 135gr from now on in target shooting longer distances. As I've never seen yaw in those bullets.

I have some Arsenal .308 110 gr. flat nose and some Lachmiller .308 108 gr. hollow points if you'd like to try them. They both shoot great from the Texan and perhaps they'll work great in your gun too for distance/paper punching (too small for deer of course)

Let me know if you want to try some and I'll mail them to you.

Thanks Steelhead I'll keep that in mind. I have several bullets here besides the BBT's that I have not tried yet or retried since I make mods to the rifle. Hoping to find a new place so I can stretch it out.
