Another burst disk
« on: November 04, 2018, 01:27:13 PM »
Set up the new filter for the Yong Heng, and went to fill my 90ci Air Venturi tank. This is a Ninja carbon fiber tank with different stickers. It’s a 2900 psi regulated tank.

I just rebuilt the thing and added a purple shim to bump the regulator just over 2900 to 3,000 psi and was authorized by Ninja. The knob on top had gotten bent by the people who used to fill my tanks. So the top portion is all new.

To fill these tanks you tighten down both knobs and fill on the side port.
Well got to 4500 psi and the damn 5k burst disk burst. Now that just about made me leap out of my skin. I was already feeling nervous about this whole thing and was making up plans in my head to put a box of some sort around the whole mess to avoid whipping hoses and the like.

Damn. I have a spare burst disk, but am paranoid at this point.

I assume you have a known-good gauge?

I had a 3K disc fail, when the pressure was just 2,300. If I knew why, I'd be rich. Replace it, and try again.

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

I assume you popped the regulated side. I replaced mine with a 7.5K and never looked back. I don't understand how a 5K disk is going to save anything on the regged side if your psi is never that high.
