Out of the mouths of babes

Yesterday I started a new project for a couple with two kids. The house, while not gigantic, is spotless. Same with the yard and landscape as well as the big carport with the travel trailer, aluminum tandem axle trailer (later found out for hauling a small aircraft), and assorted toys.

This client works for a large dirt-moving construction company with hundreds of employees. I know people who work there and have done multiple jobs for employees, and they all are very similar personality-wise. Great mechanics, lots of motor toys, and shops so clean you could do surgery in them.

Yesterday while setting up, the two young kids, a boy about 7 and a girl about 5, were intently watching the procedure. The girl in particular was paying close attention to my apprentice setting up the tools and filling the saw with water.

Tony (my helper) asked her, 'How are you doing today? Are you going to school?'
Her response was, 'No. We're going to the pumpkin patch. I'm just making sure that you don't kink the hose. My daddy hates that!'     

I could hear everything from the open window of the bathroom I was working in, and it took me at least 30 minutes to stop laughing.
