Major Compressor Goof

When my compressor arrived I was anxious to recharge my Bandit and didn't read the manual first. So I charged the gun with no oil and no water circulating through the pump. LUCKILY it didn't seize or blow up. Seems to still be working fine. I was a complete idiot for doing that because I know better.

Well, it probably had enough oil in it to start with.

The major issue with most of these relatively-inexpensive compressors is the crankcase breather. if you don't install it, the crankcase becomes a fragmentary bomb!

Humility and admitting a brain fart openly is admirable. A lot of guys don't have the cojones to do that and all of us have done (and will do again) something similar. And no matter the reason; being distracted, overly excited, new piece of equipment, etc. at some point you have the slap-the-forehead moment. You only hope that it didn't maim you or cost a bunch of money.

It's good to be reminded of the little important things, and also it helps someone just getting started to be a little more cautious. If it saves one of us from doing something similar it's worth eating some public crow.

Yeah. I don't mind admitting when I make a mistake. It keeps others from making the same mistake.

I watched a few videos on YouTube yesterday and got it all figured out with the cooling system and everything. It seems to be working fine. Got my Bandit charged up last night. I'm going to set up a little charging station in the basement that way it's always set up and ready to go.

I took an expensive Husky chain saw and got it to work then fried it by filling the tank with regular gas. Ran great for a few minutes.  Couldn't figure out why it would re start.

I was fixing to leave Japan after three years and had to sell my Suzuki motocross bike. I had a pretty penny into that bike to keep it competitive and I really hated to let it go. But I had to.

So found a guy to buy it, and I went into great details of how to maintain it, how to mix the oil and gas. Gave him a bunch of bean oil, and a ratio rite.

A week goes by and I and I get a call that the bike is seized, and he wants his money back. I ask, how much oil did you mix with the gas? Silence. Then huh?  The bike had a fresh bore, piston and rings. Maybe one race on it, and he totally trashed my beloved Suzuki because he didn't premix the oil I gave him with gas.

I was annoyed for quite a while.

I have a JSB MKII in my kitchen floor, which was just two weeks old at the time to remind me.  Also, a JSB 50.15 gr in a deck board to remind me I am still human.

My boss was draining oil from his riding mower when his Wife called him in for lunch.  After that he hopped on the mower to cut the grass.  All was going fine until the mower's motor ceased up from having no oil in it.

Glad your compressor is ok, certainly something I would/could have done during the excitement of a new toy.

Saturday I bought a Daystate compressor, I was so careful about set up, I was reading the very simple directions over and over, leaving all the "add oil" markers on. Daystate had a very cool "add oil" precaution attached to the plug that was hard to get off. So luckily I'm not confessing to the same mistake. Plenty of others to confess to though.
