Taking my niece and her friend shooting
« on: July 10, 2020, 05:30:56 PM »
I took my niece and her friend out today for some shooting. Girls had fun. Shot .177 Prowler, .25 Streamline, .308 Texan, and .308 Remington 783.

Pics below are the girl's 50 yard groups with the FX. Mackenzie is the upper left and Jenna is the center. Mack's is around an inch and Jenna's is a ragged hole. Great job for having never shot before.

The girls were pleasantly surprised that the guns didn't beat them up, as their parents warned them they would. We shot break barrel at 25 yards, FX .25 at 50 and 100, and the Texan .308 at 100, 175, and 275 yards. I made the girls figure out their own shooting solutions and holdovers. They took great interest in that part and soon had it figured out. Instead of me telling them what to do, I had them work together as spotter and shooter. The spotter watched the impact through binoculars and told the shooter how to correct for the next shot. We had a nasty crosswind and they instinctively started reading it and compensating. Jenna is a Lefty; I wish I had known as I would have brought another set of arm rests for the Born Wild Chair but we just did a quick change from lefty to righty in under a minute. After a while I set up a table and used the bipod and both were fine with that too.

We finished up with total destruction on grapefruit soda cans at 50 yards with the Texan (about the only thing  grapefruit soda is good for)  I brought out the Remington for a test fire since nothing had been done since deer season. Much to my surprise it is WAY off by more than foot at 100 yards and will need some more extensive work. Neither girl wanted anything to do with the powder burner; they much preferred to stick with the air and both loved the FX Streamline. I have found this to be the case with just about every newcomer...they love the accuracy, silence, and ease of operation.

On the way home we stopped for smoothies and it was perfect way to cap off a great day. They were already asking when they can do it again and were texting the grouping pics to their hotshot male 'shooting expert' friends.

Start them young I have always said!

Kevin, next time you write an epic, do it using your word processor or text editor. Once done, the wording can be cut and pasted. If you miss getting all of the photos in, "you" have the ability to add them later once your connection is restored.

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

Kevin, excellent job on getting the girls out shooting! Sounds like you’ve got them already strung out!

A youth day of Airgun shooting sure seems like an awesome project for the future. :)
