AirGun Shipping Damage
« on: June 23, 2019, 08:00:52 AM »
It seems to me that all shippers are getting worse when it comes to damage to the packaging and to the contents.

In the past two years I’ve had AirGuns and accessories get damaged in shipping.

1. Quackenbush .58 Outlaw LA short rifle had its trigger smashed. It was insured but the USPS would not honor the insurance and stiffed me for the repair and shipping both ways for the repair.

2. A second Quackenbush .458 Outlaw LA shipped UPS had the stock damaged. I think it was wanky packaging and I did not pursue a claim with UPS.

Both rifles had the action removed from the stock to make for a more compact package and to reduce the chance of damage. Didn’t work.

3. A replacement cylinder assembly for my Yong Heng arrived damaged with a brass nipple broken off in the cylinder. I have a bunch of time heating it to remove the red locktite, but so far have not succeeded in getting it back up and running. Chinese company who sold it to me is exceedingly slow to respond.

4. Alan sent me a new 12volt compressor via DHL from China, and as cool as it is, it got damaged in shipping and now has three leaks giving me fits. They agreed to send a replacement. Fingers crossed it makes it here and undamaged.

I’ve about decide that if I buy any new airguns that they be packed in a plastic case. And if I buy a used Airgun that I buy a plastic case and have it shipped to the seller, who then turns around and re-ships.

The Chinese need to improve their packaging for pieces and parts. I will say the box my Yong Heng was shipped in was stout!

Anyone else had damaged airguns or accessories due to crummy packaging or mishandling by a shipper?

The only problem I can remember is my FT rifle was shipped to me in its own box, not double-boxed. When it got here the muzzle had poked a large hole through the box, and if you put that end down the muzzle stuck through. Jamal, my UPS guy noted it and left me a receipt. I contacted the seller and told them they should have double boxed.
Anyway, the gun shoots better than I.
When I ship I usually add a piece of plywood cut to fit the box and shrinkwrap then tape whatever I'm shipping to it.
Buncha BB guns that I don't get to shoot as much as I like. Grinding out a living on the farm.

YEP I have had 2 airguns broken in half at about the grip area, had a fork from a lift thru a day state box, but it missed the gun. blessed. Last couple years shipping and employees of shippers stink. And I don't even want to start on the, USPS hand over from  the other shippers, so  USPS won't go broke. It is sad. It cost me 96 bucks to ship a slayer back for a leak. That is asinine . I believe the young people who work at these places do some on purpose if they think it is any type of gun.

Tuned up a spankin new HW35 for a customer on the east coast. Came to me and went home double boxed as we see AOA do with there guns sold.
Short of it ... got to Pennsylvania BROKEN IN HALF threw the wrist. Delivery got refused and gun came all the way back to CA leaving me to deal with the claim for damages.  Had insurance on it ..... FEDX bought us a new gun tho claim was for gun stock that we could not get alone. ( Walnut ) in which the stock was removed and replaced onto the customers action making a whole gun once more.

They never asked for the Broken stock being it already was destroyed ... Repaired / epoxied it back together and put in the action from the replacement gun.
Customer got whole, as did I with a complete gun with a repaired stock.

Sometimes we get lucky and this was one of those times .... Not typical !!

Sure would appear that Amazon is bent on eliminating all shipping companies other than their own they are rapidly building out. One can only imagine what super cheap shipping costs they’ve negotiated to feed our “Prime” addiction.

On the other hand looking at eBay you’ll see shipping costs are getting to the point of being ridiculous. Go to the USPS, UPS and Fedx offices and pay for shipping and it’s clear that individuals must be subsidizing “Prime”.

In some cases Steve. you're correct (sort of like Obama care). For example, I just send a 2nd day package to Denver, via USPS which weighed 3 pounds, and cost me $45!

What Washington should do, is let Amazon buy the USPS. Radical to be sure, but it is evident that the USPS needs an overhaul big time!

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

In time all companies that become monopolies raise prices, and provide less service. Along the way the landscape is littered with smaller businesses or larger businesses the monopoly bought up. People are left with fewer choices because of the reduced competition.

Amazon is now so huge and has such a large tax free profit, and Billions in Cash they are expanding their businesses, not by innovating but by gobbling up or crushing the competition in other areas like shipping, not only for local delivery, but port to port, airport to airport, and the trucking industry. They have a new startup primed to “disrupt” the existing businesses.

Disruption of an existing business model usually means other businesses get taken over, or destroyed. Workers lose their jobs, and take wage cuts when working for the new monopoly. Ask Amazon workers how they like their lower paying jobs with little or no benefits. So many workers have their hours cut so the company doesn’t have to pay benefits.

In the meantime big companies buy up as many houses and apartments as they can during economic crashes like 2008. Then they put them up for greatly increased rents. Whole communities are controlled by few property owners.

It goes on and on and in short, people are cheap and expendable. The rules are created to make it hard for little guys to get ahead and easy for the companies to stay on top, not pay their reasonable share of taxes, and to pay their stockholders.

None of us on any of the Airgun forums are part of the elite. But we can all get distracted and fight about social issues, god, guns and whether your label is Democrat, Republican, Liberal or Conservative. We all compete and fight for one tiny slice of the economic pie.

For fun google, “which foreign groups have bought up most of the residential housing in the usa?”

Hint: it ain’t the poor Central Americans or Mexicans Trump is so distracted by. We have been bought and sold by our own countrymen.
