Collective sigh!!
« on: February 29, 2016, 11:03:47 AM »
Okay! I want everyone to feel sorry for me. I buy a nice PCP from the Old Pro (WAR), a nice carbon fiber tank from AirTanksForSale, and think I've got it made. Well, not quite! The local scuba guy got back in town from a diving trip, and his compressor is so old that none of the fittings fit. So back to Joe at ATFS to order a Freedom 8 replete with drier. So here I sit, spent a wad of cash, and still haven't fired the first shot! Drat!

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

Funny, I bought a slightly used 88cuft Airhog tank, and went to the local fire extinguisher refill shop who also fills air tanks for a couple fire departments, and he didn't have the right connectors either. Then he munged one of my connectors while putting together some Frankenstein mess of galvanized pipe, copper fittings and who knows. And the dude charges $11.00 for this. I think the going rate is around $5-7 if you go to the paint ball places or Sports Chalet etc.

A compressor would be mighty nice. Might convince me to buy another PCP.  ::)

This issue about dive and paint ball shops not having the correct stuff, brings up another issue. Especially so if you live in a small town.

Not all of us can go out and plunk down $1,500+ for a compressor. It is difficult enough to buy a small carbon fiber tank in the neighborhood of $600. It you look at this from a PCP gun expense, you end up spending nearly 4 times more for the support equipment than you do for a Benjamin Marauder! That is an expensive plateau for any air gunner. Oh sure, some PCP guns sell for upwards of $5,000, but the average guy doesn't spend anywhere near that amount.

Keeping a data base for all who can, and those who can't fill airgun tanks, would be a formidable task. Keeping it up do date would be even worse. However, here is something to consider. I'm going to add to my profile that I have a compressor (it is shipping this date), and that I'm willing to fill someone's portable tank if they just happen to be near my home here in Roswell, NM. Perhaps if other members do the same, we can feel at home when we're not there!

I really struggled spending the bucks on the big tank.  But I figured out that I wasn't shooting nearly as much as I wanted because I just got sick and tired of pumping. That and my triceps were looking like Arnold's, the rest of me wasn't.

yeah... I hear you on the setting up and maintaining a database. I tried taking Crosman's airgun hunting laws data and updating, and making it easier to navigate,  and then taking new data from GTA members and suddenly I found myself spending hours and hours. And then you never know if you had the correct data anyway.  What fun.  Air Gun Hunting Regulations By State

That's a very generous offer to fill up folks tanks.

I wish the chart was correct, then I could hunt coyotes with an air rifle.  I am not the most computer literate when it comes to doing what you do.   :o :'(

When you bought the Shoebox from Joe, you maybe should have got the adapter to fill your tank from the dive shop too, just in case :-X . I always think of "Murphy's Law" ;D

Ammo, I thought about that, but considering the cost, I begged out. I do have an alternative, but I have to drive 80 miles round trip.

IIRC I made this adapter for about $40 when/if I need to go to the FD for a fill up:

The local paintball charges $4 to fill my 90ci tank. He said he charges $30 to fill the 88cf tanks because his system isn't big enough to handle it. He has to run his compressor to long.
