Stay tuned guys.

It seems everyone wants an FX Chronograph. Okay, I'll buy that, but I won't buy everyone one! So....

if you read this, rely and let me know if you really would like to have one. If so, I'll will make a negotiated-volume purchase agreement with Utah Airguns. I think I can talk them into a deal, where they drop ship free, for a small discount as well. Any takers????

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

The fair-traded price is $199US, plus freight. We will see what they offer. I ask for a group purchase, where I would pay for the lot, and arrange for the individual folks to pay me back.

Thank you, guys!

And thank you, Alan!  There was a white box on my desk when I got home from work this evening.  I was excited to get outside and try it.  At first I couldn't get a reading so I fiddled with the profile and sensitivity settings and was getting nowhere.  Then I found the video guide on FX's web site that says to experiment with its fore & aft placement.  As soon as I backed it up a few inches, it started catching every reading.

The software works well and it's nice not having to transcribe my readings or drag out the lights to do some chrono work at night.  I can see right away that it's going to get a lot of use.  8)

Bob and HardAir Mag, thanks for this article.  It answered by questions about question #2:

https://hardairmagazine.com/ham-columns/the-external-ballistics-of-diabolo-pellets/

2. At what muzzle velocity would a pellet have less sideways drift at 50 yards?
(Assume a round nosed pellet and a constant crosswind of 10 mph.)
  A. 600 fps
  B. 800 fps  <<< correct
  C. 1000 fps
  D. 1200 fps  <<< my incorrect answer

FWIW, I also got #1 wrong.  I assume the correct thinking here is that the drift (change in angle of the trajectory?) that occurs near the muzzle simply has more opportunity to translate into a horizontal change in the point of impact?  My incorrect thinking was that the pellet velocity would be lower at the target and thus would be more susceptible to the crosswind.

1. At what point in the trajectory does the wind have more effect on the point of impact?
  A. Near the muzzle  <<< correct
  B. Near the target  <<< my incorrect answer
  C. At some point midrange

It sure is more fun having to think through an answer vs. simply picking a random number  :-)

You are correct about the wind drift at the muzzle changing the angle, which then is the new course all the way to the target.... Here is constant wind from 0-100 yards....

Here is wind only for the first 25 yards....  Note the pellet stays on the new course from 25-100 yards.... hitting 4.5" from the POA....

Here is a reverse wind for the last 25 yards.... It only reduced the drift by 0.4"....
