Sam Yang 909s - .454 cal vs .457 cal
« on: February 15, 2016, 01:23:37 PM »
Got in some Hornady roundball ammo, one box of .454 and one .457. I've found .457 ammo to sometimes be a bear to load, so I thought I'd try some .454 and see.

.454 is easier to load than the .457, but neither is bad. I have some .457 lead balls from Whyte which all have a sprue bump. Sometimes those are just about impossible.

Any who, here's some numbers:

Shot#V-.454FPE        V-.457FPE
1791.6194.85        809.5 209.58
2765.1182.02        778.8193.99
3736.1168.71        742.1176.13
4697.2151.15        708.3160.45
5661.2135.94        658.5138.69

Does this look about right for a stock 909s? Looks like 4 or even five shots is doable. Wanted to do a few more strings, but even with Moderator, this thing is too loud for fear of annoying neighbors.

One thing for sure, .45 tears up 2"x8" boards...
