During my last fun shoot with Kevin the trigger sear quit catching the hammer. I’d cock the rifle and it wouldn’t hold. Emptied the rifle of air, then took it apart last week and found that the Timney Trigger has a set screw on the front that raises or lowers the trigger housing and the sear. That screw was loose, and I think too short as only half the threads were engaged.
Today I got a screw that was twice as long and the fit was now perfect. Put a drop of blue Loctite on the threads and buttoned thing back up. Tried to fill up the rifle with sir but I could not get the poppet to seal. This has been a problem previously and the fix was to chuck up the poppet in my drill press and shave off a tiny bit of the mystery poppet material. So I did this and miraculously was able to get the poppet to seal after two tries.
The poppet uses a 1/8 HSS drill bit and a rather long piece of mystery plastic. I think I’m going to order some extra long 1/8” HSS drill bits, and mystery material, and try and make my own poppets. I figure two spares will keep me going for a while. Never ever drain this rifle of air if you can help it as it always seems to result poppet seal failing.
I suspect the valve / poppet seat is not in perfect alignment which is the source of my pain. I stuck the inside measuring stick part of my calipers in the valve body to determine if the valve seat was perfectly square to the air tube and it appears to be off.
The things we learn.
