The last article in my series on Ballistics is now online....

https://hardairmagazine.com/ham-columns/bob-sterne-discusses-hollowpoint-slug-design/

This is the 25th article I have written for H.A.M. and I am going to take a break from having to meet a deadline every month for a while.... When I have an idea for a stand-alone topic, or a short series, I plan to send them to Stephen, it just won't be monthly any more....

Wonderful article, as usual.

I've been "sorta" working on a video about terminal ballistics. The reason I haven't published it, is perhaps obvious if you knew the topic; dissection of (primarily) pigeons. The photos are rather graphic, and I don't wish to offend anyone. But....

It is obvious that hollow points do their job, but on larger game. Birds are not large game! The bottom line is simply that round-nosed pellets do more damage on small game (birds), than hollow point projectiles do. This fact brings many thoughts to mind, ,not the least of which is the "game". On targets, it doesn't matter. On small game, it does. On larger game (up to say 20 pounds), bullet design becomes more important. On big game (deer, goats, pigs, etc.), it certainly does. As a result, we have to ask ourselves, what our quarry is? Without that discussion, any difference between gelatin block tests, clay, simulated flesh, you name it, is nothing more than conjecture!

As I said! The game makes a difference. Call it density vs. sectional area vs. energy!

Hollow points certainly do a lot more damage on Ground Squirrels than do solids....
