Title: The Uninformed
Post by: Alan on April 13, 2020, 12:43:37 PM
Oregon has shut down hunting to non-residents, as have some other states. Their resonating is obvious to them, but flawed to the rest of us, especially if we camp. One of the stated reasons was some perceived idea you can catch the Covid-19 virus off of a gasoline pump handle! Really? I don't know about you, but I don't think I want to stick my fingers in my mouth after I pump gas!

Legit scientists say stay home for good reason. That is to flatten the curve. None of us truly know if we carry the virus as it can be asymptomatic. There’s a lot we don’t know about the virus and we are slowly learning. Caution is the prudent step forward.

One thing is quite clear and that is we as a country were poorly prepared and the messages we get from the very top of government are confusing and contradictory, and apparently have an underlying political motive.

Other countries have done a much much better job of controlling the pandemic and have few deaths compared to the leading country (USA) and hospitalized patients. Anyone in a leadership position who comes out in a daily meeting and says their response is all in their head or gut, needs to shut up and let professionals take over.

Further more I hear some folks talk about Socialism and the evils, and yet do not see successful responses to Covid19 as socialism or critical to the safety of the citizens of this country.

The economy is tanking, and Congress and the President have passed a relief bill, yet much of that relief is not reaching the the families most in need, rather the money is, as usual going to corporations who already don’t pay their share in taxes.

Having freedom doesn’t mean that large numbers of Americans have to needlessly die because of a poor response, or because some Americans still think this is a hoax and somehow have immunity to the disease. Don’t gather in groups like church or sporting events. Don’t go out unless you have to or you are reasonably practicing social distancing.

Mark my words, if the leadership decides to prematurely stop social distancing and try to restart the economy, the rate of deaths will increase dramatically and we will see a series of seesaw periods of the pandemic ebbing and flowing until we get better treatment and vaccines.

Off soapbox.

To most, I agree.

In 2008, the USA lost just over 68,000 people to the H1N1 virus (CDC information), which is a relative of the Covid-19 virus. For whatever reason, the H1N1 epidemic wasn't called a pandemic, but should have been. Assuming the naming difference was, or is political, is mere speculation. This said, decisions of what, who, whom, will or will not, be subjected to quarantining and/or limiting personal activities, based on hysteria and misguided "advice", is the most devastating issue of them all!

If we can agree on any aspect of this pandemic, it is where, at who's directive, and why the Covid-19 virus was developed, needs to be brought out publicly!

"If we can agree on any aspect of this pandemic, it is where, at who's directive, and why the Covid-19 virus was developed, needs to be brought out publicly!"

I think we know the answer(s) to most of the questions you ask Alan, and I'd speculate that this entire mess we find ourselves in is mostly self inflicted.
There's a growing number of Top Doc's and scientists that state that we shouldn't be in isolation for this virus.

“There are reasons to be skeptical of the efficacy of quarantine, for respiratory diseases [like coronavirus] in particular,” said Wendy Parmet, director of the Center for Health Policy and Law at Northeastern University Law School. Quarantine is one of the oldest defenses societies have had against disease, but it’s not a sure-fire way to stop a disease from spreading and shouldn’t be any government’s knee-jerk response. In fact, in some circumstances, a quarantine could actually make things worse.

I hope President Trump DOES follow his gut and get this economy moving again.  Right now less that 2% that get this virus die, and that's probably a inflated figure because we still don't have (and never will have) an accurate figure of how many actually have the virus.

Following your gut in a pandemic and believing in a leader who follows his gut and ignores science and data is a fools folly.

By the way the Chinese are calling the virus the USA Virus. Is it us or they who have cornered the market on tin foil hats?

The facts are we have more people sick, and more dead from the virus than any other country.

I’m done with this thread!

The whole thing is sureal and we are really way behide the eight ball on dealing with it.

When people talk about global warming and worried about the planet, I always say "I think the planet will take care of it's self"....this is certainly one way the planet thins the herd, so speak.

I cannot imagine living in a densely populated part of the country.  It's way to close as is here in fly over country.

Bullets, beans, and rice...always good to have a supply of

I see do to policitcal pressure, stay at home orders being lifted and it all fires right back up.  I'm 55 and in good health, but this is something I really don't want to role the dice and catch.

Bullets, beans, and rice...always good to have a supply of  oh and toilet paper...don't forget the toilet paper...face palm!!!!

I suspect that all of the issues behind who, what, when, and where will eventually filter out to the common man. And when it does, there will be a lot of angry populous. I also suspect China will be sued in International Court.
