No Blood, No Gore, Dumb Mistake
« on: February 06, 2016, 05:41:59 PM »
North GA weather wasn't too bad today (45-50 degrees, lite wind) so up to my favorite WMA I went with my P12. Walked the logging trails looking at the deer, pig, turkey, and Yote tracks, but did not see any of the live creatures this time. I did walk up on a nutter that was lasered at 35 yards. He saw me at the same time I saw him and started barking at me, waking the neighbor squirrel in another nearby tree. The noisy one was giving me a clear shot and the P12 launched a 21 gn Cuda right into the lighthouse knocking him off the limb, and I watched him fall about 30 feet. This is when I made the big mistake, I immediately turned my attention to the other nutter, but while stalking, he was moving fast and I did not get a shot. When I turned back to locate the noisy one, all of the trees suddenly looked just alike and I wasn't sure which tree limb he fell from. The search lasted for over 45 minutes, and while I am sure the shot was terminal, alas, I was not able to find critter. I know, if there are no pictures then it didn't happen, so I shot this picture of the tangles I was searching in... :(

Don't feel bad, I've shot many, made good mental notes on where they hit the ground with a thud and never found them.  I knew they were DRT but not even any blood.

Yep no shortage of Greys. I did come across a very nice fox squirrel the weekend before, but couldn't pull the trigger on that one. They are not rare in Georgia just don't come across them very often and they are awesome looking creatures. Had to give that one a pass.

Yes, enjoy those kind of moments when you can they don't happen often. Sometimes it's just nice to view the animals and leave it at that.
