Title: In town prairie dogs
Post by: Alan on August 11, 2019, 10:35:41 AM
This isn't as good a resolution as I would like to have... And it was taken some 5 years ago. If you zoom in a bit, you can start to see the prairie dog mounds. The whole piece of property is about 45 acres (not all shown), and is now covered with prairie dogs. I got 7 this morning. Only one shot was under 65 yards, and I shot two at 135 yards. All in about 35 minutes. I would have stayed longer, but the wind picked up to about 5 to 7 mph.

This property is indeed inside the city limits. However, special permission was given by the powers that be, to allow three of us to hunt the property. Until the first of November at least. If no one complains, we'll get another 6 months.

My .25 caliber, WAR Cobra. At 45 FPE, it is enough, as long as the wind doesn't get too gusty.

What do you guys do with them?  Get any fleas?  I heard they were bad.  Do the city resident pets go in there?

All prairie dogs have fleas! But to my knowledge, there hasn't been any plague in the area. Yes, the local canine population frequent the area, as do the fan tail hawks. Fact is, one picked up one of the prairie dogs I shot. That is sort of a common occurrence, actually.

You are fortunate to have such a permission.
Good Luck,
