Northern California Newbie
« on: July 06, 2017, 07:37:22 PM »
I purchased my first airgun since I was a kid this last year (Benjamin Prowler) and fell back in love with the sport. I just made the leap into PCP and bought a .308 Texan. Hoping to find some resources here in Northern California where I might meet up with some other hobbyists. Luckily for me I live on a ranch and I also have a public range about 10 minutes from my house. I've found two local places that can fill my carbon fiber tank, but they can only go to 3000PSI.

I haven't shot my gun yet (just purchased and in transit) and I would certainly welcome any and all helpful info so that I can avoid some pitfalls.

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

Welcome to the forum.  Lots of good knowledge here.  I have learned a lot.  It would appear you might be a good candidate for a compressor.

Hello Steelhead and welcome to the Guild. You've made quite the jump into the world of PCP's with your Texan. Hope that your share your experiences with it here with us. Glad you found us.

Thanks, Chris. For once in my life I wanted to just buy the best within my budget and try not to cut corners. I like high power, long range, and I don't mind admitting that I like the cool factor of having the most badass airgun around and the 'wow' factor.

I can't deer hunt with it in CA and I also don't want to spook off the bucks that are in my garden right now (rifle season opens in a month)  My first trip will probably be to the pay-to-play range and after deer season (or I harvest a deer) I'll set up a range in my backyard. I have 700+ yards behind into a mountain so I'm good to go.

After dropping 2k on the gun and accessories I really can't get a compressor right away; I'll have to make do with 3000-3500 fills. At least I was smart enough to get the big carbon fiber tank (bench shooting for at least a year) so I should be able to get a few shots down range without running the 5 minutes down the road to the dive shop (I could have it way worse, I'm sure)

You're closer to Mt. Shasta than you think. If you set up a meeting with Travis, it will be one you never forget!

Welcome Kevin.  Enjoy that Texan.  I don't know if it's the most bad azz air rifle 😅...but it is pretty nice.
