Airgun legality
« on: December 23, 2017, 10:22:08 AM »
I am a new member in Albuquerque, NM.  I just purchased a Colt Defender BB gun using CO2.  Where can I find out if I can legally shoot squirrels in my backyard?  I went to the public shooting installation yesterday.  It is very nice but no one could tell me.

Welcome aboard.

In Albuquerque, it is against the law to discharge a BB gun, pellet gun, sling shot, or arrow however it is propelled, and of course, firearms. Further, tree squirrels have a standard season (it is now closed). They may be taken out of season if they're a nuisance, but not within city limits. This is standard fare all though New Mexico.

If you can get out of the city limits, Eurasian and Rock doves are fair game with no closed season, and no bag limit. The rules about wasting game still apply however.

Incidentally, there is a dedicated group of air gunners in Albuquerque, but I'm not involved with it as I live in Roswell.

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

Unfortunately, you don't see any green aliens since the locals found out they taste just like chicken!
