have small 7x14 lathe want ldc?
« on: November 02, 2016, 05:03:24 PM »
hello all
I bought my lathe and have used it a few time to duplicate parts but can't get my head wrapped around making an ldc without drawings.  I need an ldc for my at44s long in .25 and just wanting some ideas.. How long?  anyone have some dimensions they care to share?

Thanks up front

Shaun

You can easily find designs for LDCs on line. But what fun is that? I say this, because everyone seemingly follows the same old design standard. But if you want something really special, you've got to do some digging. I won't give it away either, but think WWII and the assassin pistol. Good luck, because it is hard to find!

Just make a tube and end plugs, and throw a spring and some plastic Marauder cones in it.  I works.  Nothing fancy and the plastic cones are pretty cheap.  Make sure you get a good fit and good concentricity.  Otherwise you wind up with clipping.

x1, as long as it explodes when placed on a powderburner you are GOOD TO GO!!! PM me for more ideas. I have just such a beast I would like to tame just a hair more.

Steve, making one of wood isn't all that far fetched. Wood, especially balsa and cork, make good sound deadening material. I sort of alluded to this in an earlier post with resect to the assassin's pistol from WWII. Its LDC was lined with partly-cured neoprene rubber, similar to that used for airplane fuel tanks. Years ago, I watched one of those pistols being fired, and the report was almost silent from just a few feet away.

I also alluded to the fact, that just about everyone out there making these devices, all use the same basic design. The is the 21st century, and we have home computers fast enough to simulate airplane flight, real-time! Surely we can come up with a better design than Mr. Hiram Percy Maxim did.

K shaped baffles are the best way to go.  Also look up monocore designs.
