Title: .177 Regulated Rifle Build
Post by: sixshootertexan on June 23, 2017, 08:53:38 PM
I've been working on this build for some time now. When the oil and gas business hit bottom here I had time to work on it but no money to purchase items that I needed. Things are finally coming back around.
The Build.
.177 Lothar Walther   .630" od 19" length
Ninja Pro2 SHP regulator
Timney trigger
Boyds Blaster Stock (yet to be purchased)

Looking great!! Where did you get your Timney trigger and what model is it?

Thank you,

Thanks everyone.
I got the Timney off Ebay. It's for a 1903 Springfield. It's been modded a little to fit.

Looks like a Calvin Elite ... similar to what WAR is using on Warp/Flex guns.

Thanks Neil.
Pressure regulator was only at 1000psi from the factory. It had .015" worth of shims in it. I replaced those for a single .020" shim to bring the pressure up to 1250psi. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

With the higher pressure it now response to the power adjuster.
AA 10.3 average 791fps
AA 8.4 average 840fps

Need to do a little deburr work on the valve and make a few more changes to the air flow and I'll be happy with it.

Well lets see how dropbox does.

I've been camping and have not been able to work on the rifle. I was itching to shoot it so I mounted a scope to see what kind of groups I can get. Zeroed it in at 30 yards with AA 10.3gr pellets @ 810FPS.

Dropbox Links to the pics work good. It sucks that the first pictures of your build are gone. Anyways.....Nice grouping.  You gonna do a custom stock yourself?

Thanks,
Chris

I also got my air tube back from the gun drillers and machined the threads in it. Then made a end plug.

Question for ya sixshooter,
What did the gun drillers do to your air tube? I'm imagining them drilling a piece of round stock or perhaps boring some thick walled tubing to a thinner wall. I may be way off base but please elaborate....

Thanks,
Chris
Title: Re: .177 Regulated Rifle Build

It was a solid piece of 7075 1-1/8 diameter. . I had it drilled .812" 19" deep. I then threaded that end with a SAE J-Port and made a plug for it. I drilled and tapped the other end 5/8-18 for the regulator.

Thanks sixshooter, that is going to be a serious pressure vessel. Out of curiosity, why did you have it drilled .812"? Was that as big as they could go? Or by design? Who did you have do the drilling for you? I would be interested in contacting them.

Christoper .812" is the minor diameter for the SAE J-Port which is a 7/8-14 thread. I calculated the PSI rating using the thread size of 7/8". That gives it a working pressure of 4600psi. The plug I made has a o-ring to seal the tube before threads so that gives the tube even more of a PSI with the .156" wall thickness. You can find gun drillers about any where you live. We use a couple here in the Houston area.

Joe I'll get some pics soon. I just figured out how to use dropbox for pics. Right now I'm really busy between work and helping my best friend get his house back into a livable state after Harvey. I've spent the last 2 days sheet-rocking and tape and floating. He should be able to move back into his house tomorrow. We'll have his bedroom and bathroom ready so he can sleep again in his own home.

Wow sixshooter, that thing looks sweet!!! And its accurate to boot. I'm sure your proud of it and have put allot of time and effort into it....looks like it has paid off for you. How many cc's is the reservoir?

BTW, checked around for gun drillers and couldn't find any local...finally found one in California, wanted more to drill out the tubing than what I give for it :o. May try to find some others.....

Thanks Steve. I plan on anodizing it blue than hydro dip it with a see thru carbon fiber pattern.

Christopher it has 160cc in the reservoir plus the plenum. I forgot to measure the plenum so don't know how big it is. I lost some of the original size plenum do to a design change.

Today's 50 yard target. Not much wider than the 30 yard target. Still got some tuning to do and some other things that should help to make it more accurate.

Well the rifle is apart for the metal finishing. I got my CF tube in to sleeve the barrel. It's makes the barrel looks massive. It's a 16x20 tube, so over 3/4" in diameter.

Used Loctite 638 to glue the CF tube to the barrel and let it set  for 3 hours. Now I'm post curing it with a heating pad for an hour at 100°.

Nicely done!.... I like using Loctite 638 for that job.... good idea using a heating pad for the post-cure.... That 20mm OD sure looks massive, doesn't it?.... I have that for my upcoming 6mm and .257 builds for this winter.... except the CF tube is 3mm wall and the barrels are only 14mm OD....

Ok I got all my parts back from the anodizing and Hydrodipping. Tried to take some pictures this evening and the long shadows make it tough to get good pics. Anyways after I had the breech, lower piece that holds all guts and the air tube anodized I took the air tube and shroud to the hydrodipper and had a carbon fiber applied to them. I'm really happy how it turned out.

Ok I recrowned the barrel. I didn't like the way it looked. I did something wrong it's not shooting as good as last time. The velocity changed on me. I only took the upper portion apart but the FPS went up for some reason. I know it likes 800-820 fps it was hitting as high as 849.  Maybe it was the baffles removed. Could be just breaking in after the anodizing.
Anyways made a video and a spread sheet.
