HPA compressor survey update 2
« on: October 31, 2018, 10:24:35 AM »
Hi folks,

I am doing a survey to collect usage information on HPA compressors.  And so far so good…  I have had 47 submitted responses so far!  Below is tease of which compressors I have data for (and how many submissions for each).

If you have a compressor and want to share your experience, please visit this link and submit your data.  It will only take a couple of minutes!

Matt, on the next update, I'd like to see a column showing the number of hours used. I've personally kept a good record of the hours used, but I suspect other haven't unless their compressor has an hour meters. Mine doesn't, but it would be no trick adding one as I actually have the meter on hand.

I'd also like to know how many folks use an HPA dryer, which is related to the aforementioned hour usage. Without mentioning any names... When I purchased my first are air tank and booster pump, the retailer all but indicated he wouldn't sell anything to me unless I bought a HPA dryer. Turns out, that most of the time, refilling the HPA dryer took more time than filling the tank! And, it kept the automatic shutoff on the booster from working reliably. This is the reason I made my own pre-dryer using silica gel.

In any case, ALL OF US thank you for going to the trouble of assembling the data in HPA compressors. It is a needed study considering all of the new, cheap, Chinese HPAs out there!

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

I have a home made shoebox. I think it is the same as the Max. I will check it as that in the survey.

I didn't finish the survey because I thought it would skew your results since it is homemade and I paid almost nothing for it. Did not know you were asking that many questions.

Done. And with approximate hours.
Thanks for the survey.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the feedback and your submissions   ;D

Sixshootertexan, I think leaving your results off for your homemade compressor is the right thing to do.  Thanks for your thoughtfulness on this.

Alan, the number of hours is a good suggestion for my next weekly "tease".  I'll likely post that info on or around Nov. 7th.  And while I did not make the HPA dryer an explicit question, there have been many comments made about them in the last open-ended question that I asked.

We must think alike!

Not to beat a dead horse.... Some of the posts I have read covering the Chinese made HPAs, have mentioned failure after a short period of time. It appears, that if the unit doesn't cave in after a few hours, it is likely to last a long time. How long, is the real question of interest.

11/5/2018 update #2...

Hi folks,

I'm trying to decide when I have enough responses for a first round of data sharing.  I have collected 113 submissions so far.  (I honestly didn't know if I would get 10, 100, or 1000 responses to this survey.)  My gut tells me that I can probably start building my reports pretty soon and start sharing them here and on the other forums and groups.  I'll have more on this in the next week or so…

Thanks!

In the meantime, here is a table showing the number of hours of run time submitted for the various compressors.  It it sorted to show the highest average (mean) first.  I am including the number of submissions (count) so you can tell how many users contributed their experiences to each report.  I'll be getting into the other reports in the coming week or so…
