Daystate Airwolf MCT .22/.25 conversion to .30 or larger?
« on: August 19, 2017, 01:59:55 PM »
I am contemplating putting a larger caliber barrel on my Daystate  Airwolf   MCT. so I would be interested in hearing about any experience others may have had with doing this.    With an original  .22 or .25 caliber Airwolf  MCT, increasing  barrel size to a  .30 caliber,  for example, opening up valve size and seat appropriately,  along with  ports, exhaust, transfer  etc.  I see no problem  (I have it apart,  everything examined, and measured  already, seeing no serious problems with such a conversion---I have done similar air rifle conversions in the past, BUT NOT WITH AN MCT ).    The major question that needs  to be answered at this point,  is will the MCT electronics/solenoid have the force to open a larger  valve, or will I have to  use a balanced valve instead, that is easier to crack open with the existing MCT electronics/solenoid?  ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE DOING ANYTHING LIKE THIS?

I second what Alan said. Bob knows a ton on valves and conversions.

However, I know NOTHING about the electronics on a Daystate.... and I doubt if there are any commercially available valve to make that conversion.... I would think you would be on the leading edge of the sword doing this, be careful not to fall on it....  ::)

There is a "heli board" I think its called out for these in .177 and .22 Guys are getting like 12 power settings and other adjustments they really like. I emailed the guy that makes them to see what it would do for my 25. He said the he may be able to get the FPS up close to 900 but the shot count would go down to 12-15 he thought. He had not done a board for the .25 but thought they were the same as the smaller calibers. It would be nice if the AW would should the 25 grains mid 950 and the 34's at 850 on high. Low power for the 34's would be mid 850 and so on...........But that's not how she's made. All that said? I don't think a 30 cal conversion is feasible. But good hunting!

The theory behind the electrically-controlled valve is consistency. Daystate's version is perhaps a step forward, albeit a complicated one. You could do much better using a piezo-controlled valve, but the electronics would get somewhat more complicated. So I predict....

Once the balanced valve becomes well known, and widely used, the advent of any electronically-controlled valve will be put on the back burning for a lot more years!

No where near a large enough valve to breath that heavy .... WAY TOO SMALL an air tube as well majorly limiting available air for such a caliber in that gun.

IMO,
