Why AirGuns?

This is something two friends asked me not long ago as I was describing my new DAQ.  I suppose I could have been describing any airgun I own, and their reaction might be the same.

So... Why Airguns as opposed to a Firearm?

What are your reasons?

What is it that makes you addicted?

Why AirGuns?

1. The economy of shooting (certainly not the initial upfront cost) but a little lead and air.
2. The fascination of propelling that lead with nothing but air.
3. Good times for my boys to going hunting and if they miss that skylined squirrel up in the tree I don't have to worry about a higher powered non-pellet projectile going on over to the neighbors. (We live in the sticks)
4. The joy of tinkering and modifying on the guns themselves. A nightmare for some people, fulfilling to others.
5. All that we have are Mrods, so I like the sound, or the lack there of.
6. I guess this is related to #4 but anyway...The challenge that there is always room for improvement on some aspect of the gun. Whether it's power, efficiency, noise, etc. etc. ad infinitum....Again that might not be the goal of some but very appealing to me.

Those are just some thoughts off the top of my head.

Thanks,
Chris

Why AirGuns?

Trigger time, muscle training.  Hitting the Bull, without having to spend 1/2 a day to do it.  Just go out and shoot for the lunch hour when working at home.  Scope is the same Trigger is the same and the Pellet on Pellet is great!!

Why AirGuns?

Age!

I no longer camp out, I don't drive further than 100 miles to shoot, I no longer reload, and I no longer hunt exotic and/or semi-exotic game. This sort of leaves me in an exurban or suburban locality where firearms would create issues with the nearby public. So the requirements are different, but ones which are easily met with an airgun. While some may disagree, it is just as difficult to hit a 2 inch target at 100 yards with an airgun, as it is to hit a 2 inch target at 300 yards with a firearm.

Noise or lack there of, safety over PBs power wise and cost for sure. Not having to go through a FFL dealer is also nice

Why AirGuns?

1.  Ability to shoot in my backyard safely.
2.  The challenge to shoot long distance with just air power.
3.  The aesthetic beauty of these guns in all their shapes and forms.
4.  The engineering that goes into the design that allows these guns to function as well as they do.
5.  The fact that after and a few hours at the range with two or three guns, I don't have to spend several hours at home tearing down and cleaning every time.

When I tell some of my PB shooting buddies what I paid for my guns, they are amazed.  Most don't pay near that much for their PBs, but when I have them shoot my FLex, they are all amazed and begin to understand the engineering that is the basis for the cost.

I've wondered about this and how common it is. No judgement here. Just wondering.

Why AirGuns?

I can just sit here in my backyard and shoot to my hearts content. Silently. Around here the libs from SoCal have bought into the county. And gunshots bring calls to Ye Old Sheriff, they have to check out the shots, wasting their time and energy.
Oh, and no noticeable recoil, no flinching, no sore shoulder shooting off a bench while getting plenty of trigger time. Running through a box of 300 win mag shakes me up anymore. ::) Perhaps old age creeping up on me?
Shooting 100+ yards is probably akin to shooting longer range with a PB, so ballistics must be taken into account especially when fighting the pesky wind, thus keeping the Strelok ballistics program under my belt regularly instead of only when shooting the big gun helps when it is really needed.

Why AirGuns?

I love shooting airguns from my youth up, but the main reason is for pest control around the house where a powder burner can not be used safely.

Why AirGuns?

Got into them as neighborhood stealth for pest control but dove deeper the more I learned. Tinker's delights in AGs. Cost of shooting, availability of pellets, and did reality of the guns is what keeps me coming back.

Why AirGuns?

1. No trips to the range just to have fun. I love to shoot and just missed it being too lazy to ride to the range.
2. Backyard/neighbor friendly lack of noise
3. Practice in the backyard for FT competitions
4. Economy of airguns (after initial purchase of course)
5. The challenge of shooting different distances. Let's face it, PB lack the challenge in short distances.
6. I can tinker with them
7. As Alan excellently stated: I no longer camp out, I don't drive further than 100 miles to shoot, I no longer reload.....

For me airguns are just little play guns and that it.Nothing more imo. Imo skill is lacking in airguns. Teach any one trigger control and there's that. I find pb's to be more exciting. I don't have to wait for pellets to arrive or find air. Just pick up my any of my pb's and shoot. Ammo for pb's is very close to me.

I personally have hit my climax with airguns long time ago. Now I am in the falling action phase.

 GLPalinkas

 1. shoot pb's in backyard sold all airguns cuz they suck
 2. forget neighbors and friends kick them to the curb
 3. practice pb's tournaments in backyard
 4. Economy of pb's
 5. challenge of pb's at different distance. at all distance. 25m-1200m
 6. I can tinker with them
 7. Its easy for me to hit a 2" target with my past marauder .25 cal as it is easy for me to do it at 300 yards.

But each to his on. I find everything in life intolerable vain and quite frankly leaving a bad taste in my mouth. SO why airguns? Idk, sold them suckers long time ago
