New personal best for the Airforce Texan .308 @ 300 yards
« on: June 09, 2018, 09:13:49 PM »
Met Steve this morning for another shoot session. We shot at 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards. We we're joined by my uncle in town for an Olympic-style triathlon (not bad for 60 years old) and another airgunner/friend of my younger brother, Cameron. Cool day with some successes, some setbacks, and some new personal bests.

Today was only the second time stretched my Texan out to 300 yards. I did it a week ago but not with any consistency. Today I took my time and used two side-by-side targets: one a 40" x 30" steel plate and the other a typical large size rifle target. I used the steel to get my holdover/windage (the resounding 'bong' is great feedback) and then moved onto the paper target once I had it dialed. The first grouping was a little low (the black discs at the bottom)  I made the adjustment and the second 5 shot group was pretty good. I measured it an honest 5 7/8" which is actually better than I anticipated. I didn't have a good aiming point because my scope setup is pretty good for normal shooting conditions and I'm not ready to mess up a good thing by making massive adjustments. Strong crosswind too. I'm really happy with the results that I'm getting, and I'm equally happy with my 200 yard groups as well. The picture below is two three shots groups, with a refill in between.

I got to watch Steve get on the steel at 100 yards with .58 Outlaw pistol. I took my turn and was able to do it too after Steve did the homework and told me the holdover.

Watching Cameron light up the 50 and 100 yard targets with his FX Impact was nothing short of spectacular. That is a sweet gun and he has the high capacity magazines for it too. I'm absolutely in love with FX guns. This is the second one that I've the pleasure to shoot and it's just a dream.

Great day, good company, and like usual we learned a lot from each other.

It was a fun day even though I think the .458 is possessed or just plain jinxed.

Oh and the Bugbuster on the 909s is whacked also.

The wind did not cut us any slack at all!

Banging the steel with the .58 DAQ pistol was a hoot! And I have to say that it made me just as happy when Kevin hit steel with the DAQ too. Made me smile and laugh, and I may have hooted too.

Got home set up my shooting chair and resighted in for my normal .25 it was not far off.

Fun day, and tough getting out of my comfort zone.

Thanks for hosting again Kevin!

My 9 mm Freedom 202 is a shotgun too, past about 50 yards. The best accuracy is from 220 grain pellets. Even then, I get better patterns from my 12 gauge loaded with #4 buck!

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.
