Invite for a shooting day at 'Steelhead's Range'
« on: December 13, 2017, 08:46:58 AM »
I'm willing to host a shooting day sometime between this weekend and New Years if anyone is interested. I know that some of our local Guild members here in the area don't have the resources for shooting (especially long range and big bore) that I do. If this is something you'd might like to do, drop me a line and we'll see what the best days are for everyone and we'll make it happen. We can do some shooting, fire up the BBQ, snack on deer sausage, and make a fun time out of it.

Here are two days...this coming Sunday the 17th, or Saturday the 30th. Unsure of weather as out as the 30th, but this weekend looks clear. Just chime in if one or both of those work for any of you.

to short a notice. Most of us would need a month to clear the calendar and book hotel room etc. Try after the new year sometime and we can make and event of it im sure

Travis,

That's a great idea. I'm going to tentatively throw out Saturday, March 3rd. Hopefully the main winter weather will be behind us and give us a better chance at sunshine. That should also give everyone who'd like to join in a chance to plan. Let's keep this thread going and see how it shakes out!  ;D

Kevin, thanks for the generous offer!  This sounds like fun.  I'm in Santa Rosa and would love to get together with the local yocals for some shooting.  I'll keep an eye on the thread for date confirmation but so far they all work for me.

You guys are in for a good day of shooting at Steelhead's.  He was kind enough to have me over this morning for a little plinking.  Range is really nice lots of steel out there even to 200 yards.  Of course I was only trying for under 100 yards with my .22 but that texan of his has some legs.  Great to hang out with fellow enthusiasts that are good people to boot.  Thanks for the invite and all the air.

No worries. My friend Mike and I spent all day out there. We set up his chrony and had some revelations. I found my perfect curve and that got me touching groups at 200 yards. Glad you were able to make it over. At some point we'll actually get some rain and it will be too wet to shoot (and the steelhead will be running) so it's good to get some in now.

FYI, Mike got his .25 FX Royal shooting groups at 160 yards. He now realizes that he needs a scope with something more than duplex reticles to achieve the consistency to gun is capable of.

Again, glad to meet you Ed and we'll do it again sooner than later.

So the reservation list is full. Steveoh, Int3man, Oldpro, Shifty, Caniborrowsomeammo, Mike the-Targetmaker, and myself. Looking forward to it and I think it's very cool that a couple of you are doing a some travelling to get here. I will do my best to make the trip and commitment worthwhile.

Kevin
do you ever fish the Smith river from which the State Record Stealhead comes ?
and if you ever feel like shooting some precision USARB competition ?

Nice back drop. I haven't fished the Smith in many years. I try to stay within a day's drive and for me that's around 2.5 hours each way max. Otherwise I get too tired on the way home. The South Fork Eel is about my limit for a day trip. It's always so hard to plan a steelhead trip on the coastal rivers. I was never in a position to 'drop everything and run to the Smith (or Chetco)'. I sure wish I could!

That being said, it may work out for an excuse to hit the river AND shoot some airguns (at least that's somewhat reliable)
