Illinois airgunners - Please read!
« on: April 14, 2018, 05:05:26 AM »
You are (painfully) aware that airguns over .18 caliber or 700fps are considered firearms by Illinois law, in every sense of the word.  Most big sellers like Amazon and Walmart won't even ship an airgun to Illinois, even Crosman won't.  Illinois requires that airguns being purchased are handled through an FFL. That competely defies logic.
There is a bill in the Illinois senate to change this. SB2583 removes airguns from their FOID requirement, effectively meaning they are no longer treated by the state as firearms.  This does not undo the jurisdictional controls on the purchase or use of airguns (I'm looking at you, Chicago), but the airgunners in the rest of the state will be much better off.   This bill currently sits in the judiciary committee, and it needs to go through a hearing in that committee and be passed on to the floor for general consideration if it is to survive, otherwise it dies there.
Please write, email or call the folks on the judiciary committee, as well as your own representatives, and express how important it is to pass this bill. I know there have been a few who have been contacting our local representatives for the last couple years to get things where they are, but we need all the help we can get.
For that matter, if you live out of state and would like to hunt here (small game okay, there is a bill being considered to allow deer hunting with .45 or larger airgun - HB4714) contact the fine senators as well and let them know!

Link to SB2583 http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?GA=100&DocTypeID=SB&DocNum=2583&GAID=14&SessionID=91&LegID=109560
You can click on the link for judiciary committee to see its members. Sorry, there isn't a pain-free way to do it, I typically write one letter, then copy and paste it into the contact form of each individual senator.

Thanks for your help, and let's do this!

Good luck on this Mark. I trust you have placed this on the other airgun sites too.

I'm fingers crossed for you all.  I have a few buds in Illinois and they would be very happy to say the least.  Good luck.

I am not familiar with the site, but I will be tomorrow. And thanks to all for helping me spread the word.  I believe we still have difficult road ahead, but I'm not quitting.

I got more information on the "Rule 2-10" deadline.  Essentially the bill would have already died. But Senator filed for, and was granted an extension that goes until April 27.  If we can get the bill passed out of committee by April 27, it continues to live and, we might be able to get it to a senate vote. But if we can't get it out of committee by April 27 then it's game over.

So, let's get to work and see if we can convince the judiciary committee to pass the bill by April 27!
