The following are pics from seven years later, 2018, yup it should have been built larger.

The one word which comes to mind is...  Collector! Oh! And three words too... Hell for stout!

If it would have been me, I would have just purchased an old bank building, vault and all!

The structure on the right in the last picture is a heated machine room with a 12 x 36 lathe and two milling machines.  Did that a couple of years ago.  Regards, Tom

Whoa, this is amazing!

I thought I was strung out on air guns, but it appears I’m a rank amateur.

You are a patient man to build this vault over such a long period.

Thanks for sharing.

Great job tkerrigan!! Awesome is really all that I can say. It has been my experience that no matter how you build it, when you get done there is always the ever common quote "I wished I would have built it bigger/longer/wider/taller/better/etc......."

And thanks for sharing this too,
Chris

Great job. Just don't leave tools out for the crooks to cut through as they will have plenty of time to work while hidden inside your shop. Never underestimate a thief. >:(

For the next time you undertake another bigger room with block I would suggest you use 8 8 16 double open end block for the most part with steel horizontally and tied at the corners (as well as vertically) in the wall and use a 5 sack- 3/8 pea gravel concrete mix instead of grout to fill the block. The double open end block allows the concrete to hold horizontally as well as vertically.
Buncha BB guns that I don't get to shoot as much as I like. Building duck boats now that I'm "retired".

Wow!  And to think I had gone fancy when I bought a 46-gun safe (that magically holds 23 guns...)

Well done...

Good idea to lock up the cutting torch!  Hopefully you have nearby neighbors to help watch.
Electronics have several options to help one keep watch while you are absent.  You did a great
job.  I don't think any shop is near large enough, no matter what size.

You make me feel so normal.
Loved the walk-through on your vault. I'm inspired.

When I go on trips I roll the welder, pressure washer, oxy-acet tank set etc into the safe room.  Regards, Tom
