I won't tell if you don't!

The next "prize" is just as neato-slick (thanks to Steve Allen).

I want to add something here.

The Fortitude was one of the first ordered from Pyramyd Air. It should be shipped before the end of March. The rest of the goodies are already in place.

Ok sorry never mind

Easy to rectify. Post! Join the Conversation.  That's the whole point about the Giveaways is to get folks to engage and contribute. Believe me,  Alan or myself are not making money on this deal. We are doing this because we love airguns, and want to spread the news that airguns are cool.

I can guarantee you that the odds of winning a giveaway here are a gazillion times better than winning at the lotto, or another airgun giveaway elsewhere.

Maybe I'm missing something here but "closest" to what?

Sorry for being thick-headed ???

We will use a random number generator to pick a number between 0 and 570.00. Whoever has the closest number to the randomly chosen number wins the bundle of goodies.

Title: Re: Benjamin Fortitude Contest / Giveaway!

Reminds me of when I used to giveaway a free crankbait every week on my fishing forums. So many people just joined or just made one post to try and win the free lure.  LOL.

Try running a Facebook campaign that requires anything other than like and share and maybe post a reply of "done."  Many won't even post post the done part.  It requires more than mouse clicks.  LOL.  You will likely not only get very few people that actually follow the rules (even as simple as make a post about your passion in XYZ group), but you will actually get one or two people who will spend just as much effort complaining about your rules and that its to much effort for a contest they won't win anyway.  Pay to promote it and you will get tens of thousands of exposures and still only one or two people who actually follow the rules.  LOL.

Well my guess in this one has already been posted.  I suppose its against the rules to comment on it though.  LOL.

Revitalizing old members AND attracting new members are both desirable goals of a give-a-way like this, but of course you want PARTICIPATING new members.

I've been thinking, which may be a bad idea. However, if the Fortitude gets too far out, I'll have them ship a Gauntlet instead. Does anyone like that idea?

when does this contest/give away end?
Title: Re: Benjamin Fortitude Contest / Giveaway!
Post by: Alan on March 17, 2018, 04:05:57 AM
The ending date has been a bit iffy, and here's why:

https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Benjamin_Fortitude_PCP_Air_Rifle_Regulated/4569/8919

Originally, the in stock date was to be March 31. As you can see now, it is stretched out until the end of May. And, based on the folks a Pyramyd, it may not make it then! Steveoh and I have talked about the best way to handle the situation, and haven't come to a conclusion. However, since you ask, and the fact I'm the guy paying for this "give-air-way", the contest will end on April 15th, better known as tax day. At that time, whomever wins, will have a choice, either to wait for the .22 Fortitude, or choose a .22 Marauder, albeit the latter costs more money. I'd even entertain a different brand of about the same cost as the Fortitude, but understand the magazines wouldn't be included.

I trust this is a fair workaround to the delay issue. And thanks to Squirrel Hunter for bringing up the issue and getting me off the fence. Oh, and releasing Steveoh from further consternation! (He has enough to worry about now!)

Just throwing this out there .... because I've got to get my post count up before I am eligible.

The rules state one guess per member.  Also - there is the request that a donation be made.
It probably wouldn't help much .. but possibly a little.

What if more than one guess was allowed per member, but with a stipulation.
1st guess - donation is requested
Additional guesses - $10 per guess, or if that doesn't generate activity maybe $5.

A lot of folks will drop $20 on lotto tickets without batting an eye - the chances of winning here are better than probably any lotto you could find.

-Whew!  1 post down.  24 to go.
Title: Re: Benjamin Fortitude Contest / Giveaway!
Post by: Briar Patch on March 23, 2018, 05:06:04 PM
I'm no rocket scientist, but ...... if I've done my math correctly there are only 13 guesses that qualify so far.

1 in 13 chance to win.

Probably not cool to change the rules of a contest that's already going on so .. I'll pose a hypothetical
New contest  - we're in the same boat.   Durn nice prize with only 20 guesses in.  My chance of winning is 1 in 10.

Rules allow additional guesses at the carnival price of $10 a pop.  I drop another $10 down and enter another guess.
For that $10 my chances of winning are now 2 in 20.  The probability of my winning has just doubled.

And that's $10 less out of the sponsor's pocket.  Making it lighter on his pocket book likely increases the odds he'll sponsor another give-air-way.

Yeah - 2 posts.  I'm rackin' 'em up!! ;D

I'd love to do that, but there are fed and state rules about on line contests. There will be another one coming a bit later in the year. But keep going, the contest doesn't end until April 15. Go ahead an enter a guess, and I'll keep track of it. If you win, and have enough posts, you'll qualify.

In most places a totally 100% free raffle where making a purchase or contribution has ZERO - ZIP - NADA - NULL affect on your chances of winning its legal.  Where tickets must be purchased, or a purchase or donation changes your odds than it is a lottery.  ie: Gambling.  Many places gambling is licensed or even illegal on any game of chance.  A raffle or a lottery is a game of chance.  If its not a game of chance, but it was billed as one then it would open the operators up to potential contest fraud charges.  Many jurisdictions will allow a raffle and sometimes other forms of gambling for a properly filed 501C3 non profit corporation that has been in existence and operating for five years or more.

Now you might try to argue that the raffle is operating in a state where it is legal.  (Maybe its not.)  The problem is its being offered to all qualified members of the forum and it must be legal in all jurisdiction where its being offered.  I am sure some shade tree attorney is going to argue with me.  Even if you changed my mind it wouldn't change the law.  HOG, Rotary, ABATE, Rod & Gun, etc.   I've been down this road with various organizations.  We have real attorneys as members of all of those organizations who have chased that bear for us.

Even if one argued that its a personal wager it might still not be legal everywhere the raffle is being offered.  Some states may not allow personal wagers and may still bust private card games if they find out about them.  But then there is the burden of meeting the standard of a personal wager in all jurisdictions where a personal wager might be legal.  Just because we all agree its a personal wager doesn't make it so.  Its organized gambling to benefit this forum which is supplemental to a business.  It just doesn't work.

Keep it a free raffle.  Run it honestly.  Some donations may come in, and some new members may join.  Keep It Simple and Keep It Legal.

I'll wait until I've got enough posts before I make any guesses.  I might accidentally pick a number that someone who is already eligible wanted - and it'd turn out to be the winner.  Wouldn't that be a fine howdy-do?  Brand  new to the forum and I'd already have someone unhappy with me.
I was already trying to push activities that could get folks in trouble.  :o

"In most places a totally 100% free raffle where making a purchase or contribution has ZERO - ZIP - NADA - NULL affect on your chances of winning its legal. Many jurisdictions will allow a raffle and sometimes other forms of gambling for a properly filed 501C3 non profit corporation that has been in existence and operating for five years or more."

I never considered that, yet it's pretty obvious now that you've mentioned it.
That's one of the reasons these forums are so cool.  I'm always learning things.   :)

The ONLY stipulation is the number of posts, and not being a member of the immediate family—i.e.: moderators.

The whole idea was and is, to increase viewership. It has done that marginally. And yes, there have been a few donations to help defer the cost of hosting the site.

https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Benjamin_Fortitude_PCP_Air_Rifle_Regulated/4569/8919

And the winner is......??????

The guess list is attached. The nearest guess was Triggertreat. He's disqualified because his number of posts didn't meet the criteria (25).

Two who did qualify were very close. Ncrary guessed 194.70, and McCourter guessed 128.28. The differences were 33.70 and 32.72 respectively. This makes McCourter the winner! Congratulations.

As the winner, he has the right to either choose to stay on the list for the new Fortitude, due hopefully some time in June, or choose a UMAREX Gauntlet, his choice. I'll mail off the rest of the goodies as soon as he send a PM with his mailing address. The airgun, which ever he chooses, will be dropped shipped (hopefully he doesn't live in Illinois).

Congrats Matt!  You have great luck.  Didn't you win an AA S510 on the yellow a couple of years ago?

Yes sir, that was me!  Let's say that I've had better-than-average luck with online contests... ;D

And Alan did an amazing job getting the accessories out to me.  They arrived in perfect shape Friday morning!  Here's what was in the box:
