3rd Barrel Tests
« on: September 28, 2016, 07:36:56 PM »
As many know I have 2 PREMIUM barrels shooting in my Condor .257. 2nd one starting shooting first of August. I had a 3rd barrel a company gave me for testing....There rifling is almost imperceptible it is so fine. Have  a .257 Caliber AR-15 that shoots extremely well with this barrel. Company was willing to have me test it  to possibly get into airgun market.....

Bottom line FOR ME, I could NOT make it shoot to my expectations. BBL was 26" long and I shot 5 different slugs, from 63 gr Noe to 92 gr Noble from Arsenal Molds. I did get three 5 shot groups that were little over 1".....And good if it wasn't the exception......Groups averaged 2 moa and only shot it at 100 yds. Worst group was with the 63 gr and was 4 1/4"......It was a Polygonal Rifled barrel.........Have a friend that said he had a Marlin with their Micro Groove Rifling and it was very fussy with lead and had to use HARD CAST......That would defeat purpose with AIR.  I shot speeds from mid 800 fps to high 900 fps and it just wasn't consistent for me...

Gave my report back to company, with group pictures and they thought hard cast would help as they have success in the 300 BO shooting lead. They said thanks for the opportunity to see what their rifling could do in air and keep the barrel they didn't need it back.....

I said I would run some jacketed Sierra 70 gr Blitz Kings through my sizing die and TRY THEM as they shoot very accurately in POWDER AR. But that is winter project....

First barrel i failed to get to shoot well.....It is a done deal as I have 2 barrels that are PRIMO already.  Posted to let others who asked what happened.

So will you still try different slugs or are you going to just shelve those barrels?

No my first 2 barrels are fantastic..........It was this 3rd barrel I was testing and talking about and wasn't what I wanted so done testing just that LAST experimental trial.......My other 2 as I have mentioned before are from the top barrel makers making long range barrels...I have have them since first of the year.......Shot the first one since about April.........My gunsmith had some issues and about retired or just quit and had my other  barrel, stock to fit for 6 months......

The barrel I was going to reveal I just did and am done with it, it is over............Except when rainy and cold my insert it in a frame and try as mentioned sized Jacketed bullets........
