Air stripper?
« on: June 29, 2017, 06:38:22 AM »
Hi Bob,
I've read your posts on aligning and adjusting an air stripper for best results.
I also read how with careful adjustments you brought your 100 yard group sizes down from 3" to just 1.5". One last question remains and that is whether or not that group is better or worse than no stripper at all.
Other than a different POI from the change in the barrel's harmonics the group size should still show whether or not it is improving the accuracy. It has already shown it can harm it with those 3" groups.
It would be easy enough to test and hopefully you'll find the time one day.
Thanks,
Ed.

HI Ed....

I did some testing with other guns, and have found that most of the time you can improve group size with an Air Stripper, but you can also make it worse.... I didn't specifically try the Hatsan with no Stripper, but am quite certain that the group size with the same pellets would vary with velocity, within, or even larger than, the range of values I found with the Stripper installed.... The Stripper allows you to tune the gun to shoot well with your pellet, at your selected velocity, rather than having that dictated by barrel harmonics.... Harmonic Tuners do the same thing, of course, that is why they are so popular with Rimfire Benchrest shooters....

Some pellets will continue to be better than others, of course, I have no data that shows that adding a properly adjusted Stripper would make a gun prefer different fodder.... but even that may be possible....
