Ok so I decided to practice for this today. Man this is no joke extremely difficult. I filled to middle of my shot string and should have filled all the way full. Regardless I'm pretty happy with these 5 shot groups from a magazine in my .22 Mrod. Shooting JSB 18s at 845~. 50yds but went to 51 just to be sure. One shot on group #2 I pulled. I obviously have a huge poi problem that I need to get figured out.

I gave it a try today. Failed!!!

It was late afternoon and the winds were starting to die down, but still gusting pretty good.

I would love to try this on a 50yd indoor range. It would be nice to see how me and the .25 SynRod could do without the wind.

I was shooting the 25.39gr JSB kings @ about 950fps. Using 30yd targets but set at 50yds.

Although I didn't specify outdoors in the original challenge, I did make reference to the wind a couple of times in the preamble.... and it says "Wind" right on the target.... Since nobody has yet accomplished this challenge, I am going to add the stipulation that it has to be outdoors.... as that was my original intention.... Very few would have access to a 50 yard indoor range anyway.... I will edit the first post to reflect that....

BTW, Jim, nice try.... better luck next time....

I would still love to try this indoors just to see how much difference it would make even if it wouldn't count.

No 50yd indoor ranges around me anyway that I know of.

Just rereading the rules and I see groups must be completely covered by the dime that means nothing showing from under the dime.

Yup! That will be challenging!

I will be looking for a dead calm day to try again.

Darn I need to get the old .177 Diana Model 48 out. In the old days I could do that regularly.. now.. i bet not.. Especially with the 48.

My best group with the 48 was about 20-25 years ago and it was 3 shots in .087 ctc had lots of sub 1/2" groups to the odd 1/4" groups also... but since the car accident things are shakey due to the left arm vibrating due to some severed nerves..... Gota get back practicing and maybe get some more 1/4" groups at least sub 1/2" groups.

Need to get the spring singing again....

Nice to see you Tom! Not trying to get ya going with the 48.. I think anyone that shoots over 60,000 shots from the same gun has to be close to mastering it. IMO 60,000 for me at least was the limit for the compression chamber. Now time to get back at practice to achieve the 5 in a dime at 50m with a springer.

I'll leave the excuses about wind, a shaky table, and the fact I didn't have a dime handy.

I decided to give it a shot anyway.  I didn't quite make the challenge today.  Actually I had a few groups after this that might have met the challenge, but I figured they don't count.  Besides the paper was so shot up by the time I put the Cricket away that You guys would have just said I picked the best "random" group and circled them.  LOL.

I got out a measuring wheel and marked out 50 yards exactly from my back overhead door sill on the shop.  Then I put some fresh targets on my target box and walked it out there.  (Its stuffed with styrofoam, and has 2 layers of 1/2" aluminum plate in the back.)

I shot one group to get a feel for the wind and the range, then I shot a second group for the five on a dime challenge.  It is pretty breezy with storm front coming in, but I felt like I could have compensated. Bottom right group was getting a feel for the range and the wind.  Top right group was my five on a dime.  Well not quite.  It was a penny and the stray threw that out anyway.

Then I just shot a bunch for fun.

This was with a bone stock Cricket .25 shooting Exact King 25.39 over 1000 FPS.  (varies from 1040-1100)  Actually I still haven't shot this gun over the chronograph for some reason, so I am still relying on the slip that was in the box with the gun.  It shoots pretty flat compared to my 900FPS Marauder so maybe it is shooting that fast.

Anyway, here is the target.

Good attempt! I need to try this again whenever I get the time. The regulated bottled disco should be able to do it if I can

Remember, guys, the challenge is to shoot five separate 5-shot groups, each one that can be completely covered by a dime, all on one piece of paper, with no other holes or anything sitting on the target to cover any part of it.... Please review the rules....

Will try this with the Wasp Major and my .25 Marauder. I'll tether at around 2500 psi. Early Saturday morning likely...hoping it is calm, though King Heavies don't seem to mind much.
Cheers,

I believe I can do it. When I get some more 45 grain JSBs I'll set up the camera and try it. IF I can do it, I'll also make a blooper role for all my failed attempts. It will probably take several. I'll also have to cherry pick my weather conditions.
