.257 bullets and Moulds for AirForce Texan
« on: January 03, 2019, 06:26:22 AM »
Bob, Our guru of bullet design for airguns!  ;D

Your last airgun bullet design, the .575 EPP-UG was a big success! I am a happy feller.

Next Bullet | Mould I am contemplating should I somehow end up with an AirForce Texan .257 in hand is what to feed it.

I know you had a series of surveys and posts on the subject of what molds | Moulds folks might want for their Texan .257s.

Did you come to any conclusion to what worked and what didn’t?

What I’m looking at:

Arsenal 257420 Boat Tail
Lyman 2-Cavity Bullet Mold #257420
Noe 257-64-FN-BP5

I’d really like to find a mold or maybe two that works right out of the gate. A 4-6 slot mold would allow me to mass produce. And having a Hollowpoint capability would make me ecstatic. Sounds like a Noe Moulds so far, eh?

I need / desire a rifle and bullet that can reach out beyond 50 yards, one that shines at a hundred and makes me grin from ear to ear out to 200+ yards. I have plenty of backyard .177,.22,.25 backyard airguns, and a nice collection of 25-75 yard bruiser big bores. Now I want to keep up with Steelhead in the over 100 yard arena and be able to pop a spring turkey in the head at distance. I know, my needs are simple, yes?

Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

You can't really go wrong with the Lyman 257420.... It can be hollowpointed by Erik at HollowPoint Mold Services, though pricey.... You definitely want at least one of that bullet, and having the Arsenal BT version to compare wouldn't hurt.... If you are a hunter, you could consider getting both the regular (GC) base and the BT versions from Arsenal in 4-cavity versions and have them shipped direct to Erik and have 2 cavities in each converted using his Inset Bar HP conversion.... That would give you 4 different bullets, all based on a known performer....

I don't know of anyone with experience with the 64gr. BB in a Texan, so that might be more of a crap-shoot for you.... If you want a proven lighter bullet, try the NOE 260-63-FN GC AR4.... You could also consider the 92 gr. Noble from Arsenal, but that might be too heavy unless you get one of Doug Nobles valves....

Thanks Bob. I kinda thought the Lyman 257420 was a given. Since I am not enamored of 1 or 2 cavity moulds, I will order either the Arsenal 257420 or Arsenal 257420 Boat Tail. Perhaps I'll add the other to my collection later in the year.
