I understand that, Alan.... but the last Briggs & Stratton I had apart, used an aluminum rod with NO bearing inside.... It was scored a bit, so I had to grind off the end cap a few thou and then scrape the top and bottom so that it would rotate freely when bolted up.... Mind you, the crankshaft was pressure fed from a (very crude) oil pump, not splash lubricated....  ::)

That was my point Mr. Nowlin. And Mr. Sterne, I do understand. But you're old enough to remember babbitt bearings I'm sure.

I have an Omega compressor. If you're a fellow Guild member, and you pass through Roswell, NM, I'll fill your portable tank as a courtesy.

Fortunately, I never had to work on engines that required pouring and scraping Babbit bearings.... although my Dad described the process to me, and showed me how to make a bearing scraper from a file, which I used to scrape that aluminum connecting rod....

Easy on the Misters lol.  My Dad's 51 Plymouth came with inserts and Mom's 48 Desoto had inserts.  BTW Dad took lead and beat it out flat until he thought would be close to right and they lasted awhile too.

We are old, aren't we?
My Mother still has her Mothers 48 Chevy that was bought new by my Grandpa in her garage, it has a '53 inline 6 in it that replaced the original babbit bearing engine ( that original engine is still in one of the old chicken barns that are left. I remember helping my Dad pour the bearings many years ago, and then a couple years later we did an engine swap.
Buncha BB guns that I don't get to shoot as much as I like. Building duck boats now that I'm "retired".
