AirForce TalonP tank swap HELP
« on: April 13, 2019, 09:29:28 PM »
No sure where this request goes????

Just received my new A.F. TalonP and need some help with swapping in a 48 ci or 62 ci (or slightly larger) 3000 psi paint ball tank.

Where can I find an adapter???

OR can I just remove  the valve on the 13 ci tank and put it on a M18-1.5 threaded tank instead.

No change in pressure, just more HPA air.

I found a U tube vid showing an English gentleman doing just that a month? ago, but now I cant find it and it went to La La land when I tried to download it...I didn't know that happened at the time.

I don't think he used the A.F. CO2 adapter

Thanks for any help

Thanks...what words/how did you find this on Google?

I've spent a few hours a day for the past two days trying to get info on Google and several airgun/powder gun forums and didn't get useful zilch...every time I used the words  "AirForce" or "tank" in the search box all I got was tanks and airplanes...or Condor mods, etc.

I searched a lot of U tube vids also and got nothing useful...mostly how to swap in the larger AirForce bottle, or other mods...couldn't find the guy who did it.

U tube vids must proliferate like viruses. ::) :( :o

Thanks again   S.R.N.

Must be doing something wrong.

This is precisely why the use of a descriptive title and page content helps people find the stuff they are looking for. I bet there’s a ton more but folks with title a post: “question?”, or “help?”, or some other non-relevant or inaccurate or too general of a title. This is SEO, or search engine optimization. Anyone here can improve traffic on the Guild by carefully writing a title and a strong first paragraph that supports the title.

Off my soapbox.

I searched for “airforce talonp larger airtank” or similar. The order and keywords you use determine the search results.

Found it...thanks...it helped, but again, nothing specific where someone actually did a swap and could give specific data/information...surprisingly not a lot of Re-Petes which was refreshing.

I used every descriptive term I could think of relative to modification, tank, swap, AirForce, airgun, larger tank, tank valves, etc, etc, etc,...no joy at all although I did find "J" tanks.  I have a folder full of links to most things air gun related including specifics to the airguns I have and another full of powder guns links.

What came out of it was a total cost almost as much as the TalonP depending...I finally did find what threads were used on the Spin-Loc end and the bottle end of the valve...7/8 -14 UNF and M18-1.5...I can make my own adapter if need be, I have a metal shop to play with.

I did expect more responses from AGG and GTA tho', swapping in larger tanks seems  de Rigueur for some rigs.

Good Hunting.

Google is a better search engine to search specific sites. Try this search:

Code: [Select]
site:gatewaytoairguns.org talonp swap out tank

Copy and paste exactly.

Sure helps to know a bit of boolean algebra as well. I occasionally use Tor, and their search engine isn't all that good without it.

The Talon P 13ci bottles has the same threads as any other paintball bottle.  Does not have the metric M18 thread.  I have used the 23ci bottle from Mac 1.  45  fpe shooting thee Benjamin 28 grain pellet.

Tinkerer...you're saying that the TalonP valve has 5/8-18 UNF male threads??? and all I have to do is swap in a 48 to 68 ci/3000 psi paintball tank???

Talon Tunes has a $50 dollar adapter that has a female end for the TalonP valve and a male M18-1.5 end for a bottle...WHY the heck would they make such an adapter if all you had to do is screw the TalonP valve into a 5/8-18 UNF bottle...those are ubiquitous and there is no need for ANY  adapter...

This is totally CONFUSING.  That's the same size as my Gauntlet 13 ci bottle ASA valve.

I guess the only way for me to know for certain is to pull the TalonP valve and check.

Basically...if this is true all I need is a 5/8-18 UNF extension to clear the frame for the larger diameter 62-68 ci bottle...I can make that easy on my lathe as I already have that size tap and die.

Thanks again...good shooting.

Yes.  The Talon P valve is threaded 5\8-18.

WELL...so far the TalonP tank is unanimously 5/8-18 UNF...from several posters and online parts suppliers...

AND...both tanks and regulators CAN HAVE 5/8-18 UNF AND/OR M18-1.5 threads...which can muck up the waters.   Just saying "Paintball threads" and NOT specifying WHICH ONE had/has me totally messed up.

I also found out that the adapters changed the TalonP valve from 5/8 UNF to M18...NOT SURE WHY.  I have the tools/machinery/pieces and parts to make my own adapter which probably will happen somewhere down the road.

Basically I have to mix and match for using cheaper online pieces and parts or pay the price for the JDS and PCP Tunes if I want a regulator or just go with the adapter and buy a bottle with M18 threads.

SO...I bought a .45 L/4500 M18 threaded bottle and a constant pressure regulator made for the Condor BUT with M18 threaded bottle end.

My Umarex regulator has 5/8 UNF so I will order 62 CI, 5/8 UNF threaded bottle and make an adapter if needed to finish out the project.

One other thing I ran into...No one or any online references I could find could supply me with the internal threads for the regulator bonnet.  I measured the threads and the OD and  and it could be something like M22.1 x 1.25 OR 7/8 - 20 TPI or something in-between as BOTH measurements were very close...whatever it is, it's standardized throughout the industry.

Anyone out there know for CERTAIN, what these threads are...and can pass on the info to me???  Thanks.

The adapter from JDS had threads for YOUR regulator end where you swapped in certain parts that replaced the bonnet and internals to attached it to your regulator and the AF valve to complete the bottle swap/adaption...GOTO JDSAIRMAN for full details...they're good people.

The easiest way to go, as mentioned, is to use the $50 adapter, TalonP valve and a M18 threaded bottle and forget the regulator...perfectly good for most shooting...

BUT...I WANT A REGULATOR(I have two regulated airguns and three non-regulated airguns and there IS a difference) and to use what parts I already have or could find online cheaper to get there...plus I wanted the in formation I gleaned from picking brains.  Bottle and valve total cost was $88, not much more than the cost of the $50 adapter plus shipping and quite a bit cheaper than going down the "just buy a larger Condor bottle" road.

In any event, I will have a nice larger bottle conversion or a hand full of extra parts for some other project.  ??? :-[ :'(

I hope it will work out well and I won't have too many leftover parts...  ::) :o ???  Hahahahah

Again..THANKS ALL for your input, it certainly helped.

Good Shooting

AND...FWIW, for anyone who wonders or EVEN cares or  ???...probably should go in the PCP thread also.

THE BONNET ASA 0.825 NGO INTERNAL THREADS/GAS DISTRIBUTOR BODY AIR GUN VALVE END...it's 7/8-20 tpi.

I measured the threads OD at ≈0.870" and 20 tpi using a thread gauge AND I contacted Ninja for conformation...probably of no interest except to fiddlers and experimenters like myself.

It will take 2 - 4 weeks for the bottle/regulator to get here...my "cheap" 6-24 scope arrived yesterday(it's BIG and a bit heavy) and I did some scope swapping around and re-sighting and things are back to semi-normal in the airgun department.  All I need to do is tighten the air release valve on my Nomad when filling so I stop wondering WT* is going on when the compressor just keeps running while I'm off mucking around with something else...(old age dementia)...hahahahaha ??? ::) :P

It is bad enough that we have metric and Imperial systems to deal with when we're speaking of threads and measurements. Add in differences in wire gauges and transistor nomenclatures, and it is a wonder ANYTHING mates up! I guess I shouldn't complain too much, because even humans have issues connecting up!

Does Mac1 sell the whole set up or just the 23 city tank?  If I could get 18-24 shots pending power setting all I want.
I don't even have the gun yet, it'll be here Monday, but I already know I need to either add the 23 ci tank or a carry along buddy tank smaller than 30 min scba and just top off as needed.
