New BSA FFP Scope 4x14/40 with Side Focus
« on: February 05, 2019, 04:18:17 PM »
After liking my other BSA scope that Bob recommended, I ordered another. This one is with way more "dots" in the reticle, and is illuminated. I paid 121.00 with free shipping.

Original Post: BSA FFP 4x14-44 Scope

Here's what I just got: BSA FFP 4x14-44 Scope with Side Focus

I think the Texan .257 is gonna like this one.

Hmmmm. I'm starting to think that an FFP with a whole lot more data might increase my accuracy from the bench (chair). I have the Hawke Vantage 4-12x50with mildot reticle. I base my ranges in half mildot increments and leave my scope on 6X. This setup is actually awesome for hunting. It's easy to acquire the target and the dots and the scope is wonderfully clear. However, when trying to shoot groups on paper I wish I had something a little better.

Steve, you're killing me. I may have to buy one of those scopes to keep up with you on the accuracy end of things.

Why don’t you try this one before I put it on? Use it for a while and see what you think. If you like it then order one. I’m in no hurry to swap out the current scope I have on the Texan.

How do I get in on this deal???

Actually, I am pleased with my current 1.5X6X44, Level model Barska, once I figured out what the reticle spacings really were. This despite the personnel at Barska essentially thumbing their nose at me (as in ignore).

I suppose I could make this a revolving "test" plan. :)

On a Cummins diesel forum I used to frequent, a machinist had created a half dozen custom tools to fix a meandering timing case dowel pin, and put them out as "loan" tools. No charge. You borrow, use it, and send to the next person on the list. I thought that was pretty swell of the guy.

On the Ruger Forum, we did the same thing for the jig used to drill a hole in the back of the receiver, so you could use a cleaning rod from the breech end of the barrel. You slipped it on to the back off the receiver using the trigger mounting pins as a guide and started drilling progressively larger holes until the diameter you wanted was reached, then sent the jig on to the next person. Worked out well for those who wanted to do it. When Ruger designed the pistol based on the 10/22 they incorporated the hole at the factory...I do not now if the newer 10/222s have the hole..

I just ordered one. I hate being a copycat but optics with features are fairly new for me; I only started taking notice when I got into airguns. I don't have any FFP scopes and I'm wanting something that can give me the opportunity to be more precise (i.e. more reticle data)  Steve, how long does the shipping take?

This will help me learn how to use FFP and hopefully step my game up. The worst case scenario is that I like my current scope and I have to buy another airgun to put the BSA scope on.

Also bought my 10 wt. shock oil to start lubing.

Question...can I buy a 'standard' side wheel to fit this scope?

Looks like it took 20 days to get the order. I’ve gotten stuff in shorter time and longer. Chinese New Year, so it will maybe take longer.

I’ve not found a focus wheel but then again I’ve really not looked very hard. Will measure and see what I can find.

Congrats! These scopes are great and the price point makes it a no brainer.

The wheel on this BSA is a re-purposed wheel from a Hawke scope. Hawke Sidewinders come with a 4” wheel and most FT shooters want a bigger one so the 4” wheels are rarely used...

Has anyone mounted one of these on a Magnum Springer? Do you think it would hold together, as in “Airgun Rated”?

Actually found the same scope by another seller, specifically says it’s shockproof, but not “airgun rated”. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Tactical-Hunting-Shooting-Riflescope-BSA-TMD-4-14X44E-First-Focal-Plane-Optical-Sight-Red-Green-Illuminated/32595489079.html

One of my pet peeves is overly-busy reticles, and this scope's reticle is certainly busy!
