Large Side wheels?
« on: March 26, 2017, 01:01:27 PM »
I'm looking at a couple of scopes for my .25 cal WAR Flex. The Hawke Sidewinder 6-24x56 has been recommended, one advantage being pointed out repeatedly was the large sidewheel. I was looking at a Konus F30 6-24x52...also with a sidewheel but it is a First Focal Plane scope.

I'm aware the advantages/differences between FFP and SFP scopes but I'm not terribly aware of why some folks really are enamored with the large sidewheel.

What do you folks think of Hawke Scopes and their sidewheel?
What do you folks think about an FFP scope in the 6-24 range on a .25 cal air rifle?

Thats a large scope on a .25 rifle. I have a Hawke 6-24 and I use it on a RAW HM1000 for Field Target competition where the higher power is useful. However, the .25 is too powerful for Field Target and most clubs do not allow their use (Too much damage to the targets)

If you are planing on using the .25 for hunting, you really don't need a side wheel or anything more than a 3-9x scope. My opinion, but I hope it helps.

I have the Hawke 8-32x56AO Sidewinder on my .25 Armada. It's a wonderful scope. I personally like the big wheel because it's easy to see the markings and for it's ease of fine adjustment. I must also admit...and I doubt that I'm the only one...that I prefer the look of the larger wheel. I have a 8-32x56 UTG on my .22 Armada and I have the 100mm wheel on it.
