I need a pistol scope
« on: May 27, 2018, 06:11:42 PM »
I need a pistol scope for my DAQ .58 Pistol. I have a bug buster on it now, but fear I'm a gonna bust an eye instead of a bug.

You guys have a favorite pistol scope with good, long eye relief? I'd really like turrets I don't have to remove a cap, and loosen tiny little Allen bolts to adjust.

I'm probably going to shoot mostly inside 50yards, so high magnification is not needed.

Thanks!

Methinks you is SOL on exposed turrets on an LER scope.
Buncha BB guns that I don't get to shoot as much as I like. Building duck boats now that I'm "retired".

I'm not a scope expert, but Mike Schuler uses a red dot reticle on his pistol and it's deadly accurate with a lot of eye relief. Not sure what brand, but that style works really well.

I like the Burris I have on my XP-100. I know it's a powder burner but I was looking at the Burris scopes for my p-rod clone before I turned it into a carbine.

I have a red dot, that ended up on one of Henry's favorite rifles. hmmmm, maybe I just need to pony up for another.

I bought one of these a few years ago https://www.amazon.com/NcSTAR-7x32-AO-Pistol-Scope/dp/B003GCBBZW

I took it off after a short time. For one thing, I found a pain in the butt to try to shoot offhand with a scope.  For another, this scope had a really odd eye relief. Too long to use with a stock, but to short to use at arms length for offhand. If you're shooting off a rest where you can get everything perfect, it would probably work.

I read where this scope has 8” eye relief which is indeed an odd thing. Might be good on an eye biter like my DAQ.58 Short Rifle.  :o

It would be great for a high recoil gun with a stock, (assuming it can survive),  twice as much eye relief as a shotgun scope.  Getting it mounted in the right place would be the hard part!!

Many years ago, I had a Ruger Mark I, with a 12 inch barrel. I mounted the only scope I had on it, which was an old Weaver 4X fixed power. One of the guys at the gun club worked for an optical company in Kansas City. If you know anything about optics, you'd know that company was Gerry Optical. (I have a story about O. H. Gerry I'll share one of these days) That man re-engineered the scope for a longer eye relief, which lowered the power to about 2.5x. I don't recall the eye relief, but it was close to 10 inches.

Those days are over! Seemingly, the Chinese and Japanese have taken over the rifle scope business with so many models, the average guy is overwhelmed with features. Nowadays, who ever heard of power boosting? Or reticle replacement? Except of Leupold, no one has a real custom optical shop.

We're all diminished.

I ended up ordering a Bushnell Trophy 2-6x32mm Handgun Scope. Gets pretty good reviews, and got it for $95 on eBay new in box.

Will report back after I get it and give it a go.
