Classified clean up... can we have one?
« on: December 27, 2017, 07:47:28 AM »
The classified section contains some old adds for stuff that has to have sold.  Can we adopt a policy of a 90 day listing or something to eliminate year old adds for stuff?

One of my old forum scripts, used to have the ability to automatically delete posts in a board after so many days, but I don't think that's a feature in the current release of SMF.  Might be worth a look see or to see if there is a mod that does that.

Old classified ads also show up in search engine results sometimes.

I was thinking of a ~ 6 month limit, then I'll just delete those posts that aren't marked sold. Unless Steve has a better idea.

That’s fine with me.

Archiving is a good thing, and has SEO benefit.

I am think we need to limit classified postings to only members who have 30 days under their belts or a certain number of posts. I hate to see someone who has no posts take advantage and immediately post an ad.

Thank's Guys.  I like the idea of not letting someone post right away.  Sometimes they don't even come back to see if you wanted to buy their stuff.  Experience talking here LOL.

Its a bit of work, but its not to hard for the admin to tie an account's post count to their access to certain boards and features.  I don't know if its possible to tie their account age to the the same way.

On my fishing forums I set post count at three to not have to use anti spam to make a post and to prevent using personal messages at all.  It has cut down on spam posts for shoes, drugs and jewelry, and totally eliminated PM spamming.

I posted some "rules" stickied up top. Any suggestions fellow members?

Looks good, the only other thing that comes to mind is pictures, not sure if it needs to be a rule
but it a good suggestion as if an ad doesn't have a picture I'll either skip it completely or each person thats interested has to ask for a picture.

Joe, from my own experience with pics, since Photobucket went greedy, I myself don't know how to post pics. Though I haven't pursued a new pic venue. ::) Anywho pics arent really necessary sometimes. And if really necessary I just ask for a PM to text or email pic to the interested party.
