.22 30 grain bbt water jug test
« on: July 16, 2017, 12:41:44 PM »
Finally got a chance to test the fp 30grain bbt through water jugs today. I tested the hp bbt and they doubled in size in the first water jug. These went through 3 water jugs at 25 yards set at 947 fps...59.63 ft lbs. That's pretty good penetration for a pure lead bullet, .. I think. I did not size these down as I have the others, I just grabbed one, single loaded and shot. I have a sizing die of .216, and they do very well accuracy wise and speed wise at that size in the lw chocked barrel.

Sounds like some serious power. That's pretty nice for .22 cal. What kind of platform are you shooting those slugs out of?  Pressure? Barrel length?  ........please ;D.

Thanks,
Chris

Nice looking ammo.  Really engage the rifling.  I'd like to see more expansion, myself.  Have tried any in gel or clay yet?

Joe, the solids don't expand much, the Meplat makes them swell to just over caliber size.... The HPs are a whole different story....

Above photo, top track is .25 cal 47 gr. BBT HP.... lower track is the solid 51 gr. FN....

The HP cavity dissected above....

The recovered FN bullet, and below it the HP (left) and fragments.... These were fired into clear "melt-and-pour" soap at about 950 fps.... The .22 cal 30 gr. will have similar performance, I would think....

Indeed, the .22 hp nearly opened to 1/2 inch. The fp has great penetration, while the hp really opens up for maximum damage. And they are very accurate out of my jkhan. I shot these yesterday @45 yards with a red dot.

Bob

Thought those were the HP's.  My mistake.
